Quinn's pride for accountability also hurts this teams ability to win. There are guys on the bench who are far more suited to play this open ice skilled game than the one's he put out there. Sure Gauthier fked up taking all those penalties, but his power skating and ability to finish should have got him out there. Kreider is good at one thing, sticking his ass in the goalies face, he shouldnt have been out there. - aecliptic
Zib played better but shouldn't have been out there.
How many more games are we going to say, "Zib played better" until he actually plays well? |

Quinn is an idiot for putting Kreider and Strome out there. The 2 least finesse players they have in the top 9. Kreider just did circles around the net for a full minute. - aecliptic
Not like Kakko or Laf are doing anything productive, maybe Gauthier could have gotten a shift, either way Panarin and Mika both refused to shoot, those are our “go to” guys in OT |

But, you want to put Tarmo out there against Couturier or Vorachek in his first game. Right. |

Maybe the Rangers need a pure finisher. We have a lot of skilled passers and set up men.
A Patrick Laine type would have 85 goals in a season with all this passing. - NYRCeph
We have plenty of guys who can shoot, it’s just the mind frame playing in NY to be pretty |

Not saying he should have, but that might have given him a confidence boost from Quinn. |

You’re correct. They should of buried it with that possession time. Fox surely missed there. |

I mean I’m disappointed we didn’t get the 2 points. But, come on. We’re so desparate to blame Quinn that we complain about putting out Strome, who has 10 points in his last 6 games including one tonight and Kreider, who leads the team in goals? |

I've been on Team Strome since the beginning, screw TPC. |

Either the goaltending is mediocre, can’t score or the pp is awful.
There most disappointing players production wise this year are Mika, Laf, and Kakko. They have 22 points combined this year. That is utterly pathetic |

Haven’t said it all year, I get these kids are young and they need time, but Kakko and Laf look like duds. Neither one of them has shown flashes of what we were expecting, Laf looks timid out there and Kakko is in his 2nd year with being mediocre at best. I’m sure over the course of their careers they’ll become good NHL players and I’m not saying they’re busts, but what I am saying is maybe Quinn needs to let them play a little looser for a bit and accept that some mistakes on the other side of the puck might happen. These two especially need to get some confidence going for themselves, their team and the fans. |

We lost right? They kept jerking themselves off in the offensive zone right? So whats the difference if an immobile Trouba with no finesse doesnt play and a young kid in his first game who can clearly skate and pass gets in there with Panarin and Zib? Think about how many times this game Trouba was on the ice and they lost zone possession because he doesnt skate. Tarmo gets 10 seconds with Panarin and fires a nice cross ice pass that ends up in the net. |

Im not gonna get on Kakko and LAF. I have no doubt that Quinn wants them playing a specific way and hell if they dont because then theyll get scratched. Whatever is going on there with the offensive system has been a complete failure and is completely unadaptive to the skill and talent that exists on this team. |

I think it is way premature to start the dud/bust categories here. I think a prospective reminder is needed her for many. These players were not expected to be the Crosby, Ovechkin type players right out of the gate. These are very young players on a rebuilding team that have ups and downs during a crap season setup with no training camp and COVID lists. Kakko and Laf have both players well in stretches and have fallen back for stretches. Very common for young talented players. Is it the system? Their youth? This season particularly? that are messing with them coming out blazing. Who knows.
Also, statistically speaking, since when has a top 2 pick two years in a row been a dud?
I say let the team ride it out this season and have a proper off season and training camp. |

Did Trautwig die? Where did he go? I know he took a leave last year and came back for that one night but haven't seen him since. He has to be sick I would think? |

He showed up at the beginning of last season for one game and looked terrible. I think he is really sick and they’re keeping it private. |

since when has a first overall pick had to go 10 months between playing in any competitive game, had no training camp, no exhibition games, and then thrown into NHL games in an 8 team division that contained all the best defensive teams in the NHL?

Don't bother, Jim.
They're all too busy trying to figure out why we signed so many busts and have the worst coach in hockey. Anything other than 56-0 is unacceptable and the other teams should roll over for us. Learning to play defense is a waste of time and no matter what the line up is, it's wrong. We should just let them play through their mistakes and learn on the fly, but somehow at the same time any mistake makes you a bust and your coach is a moron for putting you on the ice instead of the other guy. |

why are we even comparing the stats of past first overall picks to Lafreniere when none of them even approached the circumstances he's had to go through?
this first year is a wash for Laf, just getting an idea what the league is like and learning the pro game as best as he can
a regular summer of training, a real training camp, exhibition games, a normal schedule next season, then if Laf is still struggling I'd be worried |
