There’s little chance you get back equal value for Eichel no matter who is your GM. Players of his caliber never get enough of a return that’s close to satisfy the fan base and think they did ok. With that said I don’t think that necessarily means you shouldn’t trade him. Sounds crazy I’m sure but you very well may be better off without him.

Looking at it from the outside albeit with a heck of a lot less knowledge of him then you I wouldn’t want that guy leading my team. He folds every time the team falters. That’s not a leader imo. I’ll also add I don’t think you’ll have much of a choice he doesn’t seem like he wants to see this through from where I’m sitting...

Who knows maybe it’ll be addition by subtraction long term for you guys...

Sometimes it isn't about what you get back, but just moving on. The Bruins got next to nothing for Joe Thornton, but they only missed the playoffs the year he was traded and the next. Then built themselves into a power house. They even traded away Kessel, mind you they got a better return for him, but the pieces they got back didn't really help them in winning the cup. Within 4 years they traded away Joe Thornton and Phil Kessel, and they won the cup with they pieces they aquired basically providing next to nothing.

NYI have turned the corner after literally getting nothing for Tavares (Not by their choice). I now the examples are rare, but sometimes you just have to realize you have to go in a different direction, because the current one isn't getting you anywhere. It's debatable if the Sabres have reach that point with Eichel. Maybe another coach fixes the issue, maybe it does nothing but waste another 2 years.
