The league is a joke if they call this goal back. Bratt being offside there literally had no effect on the play and he's stopped at the blueline. All of this after they waived a goal off because their guy skated into Bastian.
- Pomegrant

Is “having no effect on the play” the standard? Or if someone is offsides then they’re offsides?

If the rule is written as “offsides is offsides” then there can’t be any complaint because then the line gets blurry.

I don’t know what the official wording of the rule is, which is why I’m asking

Clearly offsides
- Vukota

If it was CLEARLY offsides how come it took them a while to overturn it?

If it isn't clear after the first couple replays go with the human element and what was called on the ice

No Idea why any review takes longer then 30 seconds to be honest. For the record I agree with the after a few looks if they can't tell it the play should stand as called, but those aren't the rules. After seeing a couple of replays I thought it was pretty clear he was offsides.

I usually think of "blow it up" as a reaction to a good team playing very poorly. This team is trying to build for the future. But the tradable assets do not appear to be able to bring in anything that would appreciably move the needle. You could blow this team up and nothing might happen....I mean last year the rags had Kreider as possible trade bait, and the consensus was he would get a first in return. Palms career stats and age are almost identical to Kreider, but supposedly he is worth only a second or a B prospect. This team does not need more second rounders or B prospects. I don't have an answer, but I hope Fitz does.

Good point and I would say Palms struggling this year is a big reason why the lower expected offers. Honestly I think he is a perfect fit for the Isles but I wouldn't do it for a 1st, especially if they can't resign him.

Yeah, Bratt being completely stopped at the blueline and onside really made that play offside. Also, it know it's hard to understand (this includes people reviewing) but when you're getting an off angle view you're not getting an accurate representation of the play. The cameras are not directly overhead of the play so it's not accurate especially when the skate doesn't have to be on the ice anymore. I think anybody who says it was a clear cut offside is an actual moron.

I think anybody who thinks the war room doesn't have every angle possible on a offsides is an actual moron. Only thing that would make somebody an even bigger moron would be to be complaining how someone is offsides but it shouldn't matter because it didn't affect the play You're embarrassing yourself at this point

Easy to forget that the NHL mandated last year that the reviews not be overturned on millimeter calls because it was taking too many goals away. Oh, and I watched the refs looking at the replay on the iPads they had. I'm sure a lot of great judgement went into overturning this one.

Hopefully the pandemic ends soon so you can go back to performing in the circus, clown.

I think we all do but, I think it is more mental masturbation than anything. Look at Nico. Solid player. Great guy. However in three seasons he was nowhere near a PPG player. Even the year Hall was practically walking on water he was averaging .63 points per game. (It flushes out if you look at his total games played, 214, and his total points, 138. Comes out to .64 ppg) He is young, sure, but not that young. If he was going to be a bonafide, all-star center, he would be producing a much higher clip, even on a poor team. I think Nico will top out as a decent 2nd pairing centerman, on a competing team.

Jack, it is too early to tell. Kid has flashes of brilliance followed by a half-dozen piss poor puck decisions, blind passes that get picked off, virtually no shot to speak of, and no less than 2 blatant turn-overs per shift. He is super young, so I won't write him off but, I'm definitely not sold on him being a super start #1 center. If he wasn't the first overall pick, I'm not even sure he is in the NHL, again, on a competing team. We have no options so, here he is.

Call me pessimistic but the body of work I've seen, has me leaning more towards the negative. They may both be good players, but as first overall picks of their respective drafts, I get a feeling we're going to be sorely disappointed.

Very likely. Buffalo has won 3 games in their last 19. All 3 wins were against the Devils

Totally agree. This is the question.

Vatanen has to pick up play for us to get at least a pick back.

- Devils Advocate

I think he can ride the coat tails of his previous success as a trading piece. Would have been nice to have another 40+ point pace, but he really hasn't found his stride yet. The fact that his cap hit is so small, and he is not far removed from good hockey could still fetch a 3rd, (or 4th with potential of a 3rd based on usage/stats). Regardless, I was happy to have him come back. Last season I was hoping he would ink an extension in the realm of 4 years, 4.5M AAV. Bullet dodged there.

Please Please Please..... Someone want Subban and Zajac. Vatanen is looking like an AHL player at best. I agree with trading all you listed.
Ruff in my opinion has really lacked the ability to identify some glaring issues.
I would like to see Bahl and Foote get a shot in the line up before the end of the season.
I think with some moves at the deadline and during free agency this team is 2 years from the playoffs and then going on a nice run of being a solid playoff team for many years to come.

- DevsgotcupS

I would prefer to save a precious year on their entry level deals. Their time will come, and Foote is shaping up to be a top 6 sniper in the next year or two. I'd like to see more Maltsev/Sharangovich on the ice. They are generating chances and skating like the wind. They need more opportunity to close this season out.

Bahl really needs to stay in the AHL, he's been the worst of the 4 rookie D in Bing and it hasn't been particularly close. He's a good bit away from being ready to get a call up. He's going to eventually play in the NHL because the Devils invested in him, but people need to lower their expectations for him. I've been saying this since the day we got him, his absolute ceiling is a #4 at best and that's possibly pushing it. Mercer will be the saving grace for that Hall return.

Kyle Dubas said he's looking to make a trade asap because of the canadian quarantine. Said hes willing to move a top prospect for a forward and would prefer it to be a rental over a hockey deal. Let's hope Fitz is all over this. Palmieri for say, a Sandin or Liljegren?

This team should rush no one, and agree on your take he needs to stay in AHL. If Bahl eventually turns into an everyday 3rd pairing Dman that can play the PK effectively he is still a win along with the rest of that package. There were no better deals out there at the time. I could be wrong, but I do not think anyone thought he was ever a first pairing, so if he plays second or third line that's fine. It's his first year in the AHL, it will take time for a Dman to develop. He is the second youngest Dman on the Bing.

I agree nobody should be rushed, and sure, if he's a good 3rd pairing and PKer then fine, but even then his defense has been brutal in Bing so far, so hes even far off from that. I mean there are a ton of people who keep penciling him into the top 4 of the future of this team, and he would need to make HUGE steps to get to that point. And people all over devils social media keep clamoring for him to be called up when has nowhere near ready and has been outplayed by the other 3 rookie D in Bing so far. Hes not good enough right now for his size alone to carry him into an everyday player for this team in the future, and people need to lower their expectations for him.

that's how I feel. which is why I said I reeeeallly hope.. because my intuition (albeit limited), and what we've seen so far, doesn't invoke confidence in their ceilings.
