Especially since the Flyers would then lose Ekholm or Sanheim in the expansion draft. Makes no sense.

Thank you for this post.

It seems some posters forget the ramifications of the expansion draft. Add in the fact that the FlyGuys are in free fall now and could miss the playoffs, means a high draft pick. I’m not interested in an aging 30+ yr old left defenseman for that price and potential expansion draft quagmire.

If he can be had for less, and it doesn’t screw up the cap and expansion draft plan. If they were legit contenders this year, you might bite the bullet and roll the dice. But under all these circumstances, NO.

They wouldnt have to expose either. They can Protect 8 Skaters + a G instead of 7-3-1

Flyers could protect Provorov, Sanheim Myers and Ekholm on top of Hayes Giroux Couturier and Konecny.

Exposing Voracek, JVR, Patrick(If not part of the deal), Lindblom and Ghost.

Farabee is exempt for the expansion draft.

Chances are Seattle wont touch JVR or Voracek due to Contracts

So you want to give up Patrick, a 1st, then likely Lindblom for 1.25 seasons of Ekholm before you either lose him as a UFA or overpay for a guy through much of his mid-30s. Solid plan.

The Leafs asked the Blues to back up the trunk for Binnington prior to their sign and trade. I

I never said I wanted too. Just that it doesnt affect the Expansion Draft as much. Plus you are kind of over valuing Patrick and Lindblom

Nolan Patrick's Ceiling was a #2 C. Now he is only 22 but you dont know if he is ever going to hit that ceiling. So far he hasnt shown too much. He is also the most expendable at this point. Flyers have Couturier as their #1C and they just gave Hayes a huge payday. Flyers also have Scott Laughton and Morgan Frost who is currently hurt.

Lindblom I would say his ceiling is similar to NoPa. Second line LW. He is 2 years older than Patrick and he is just returning from missing a year due to Cancer. This season so fgar he has not played well which is to be expected. There is some risk with him.

It is more likely Seattle takes Ghost who is having a bounce back season after injury riddled seasons.

The other part is the Flyers need a #2 D and who really is out there? Only names out there in the same league as Ekholm are D.Hamilton and Edler. Edler is 35 and teams are going to be fighting for Hamilton. I dont feel PHI has the cap space to land him Options for PHI are limited to fill a big hole.

Also Ekholm is 30 years old. He isnt through much of his 30s

I know he's 30. He'll be UFA at 32. So you either lose him for nothing or be forced to lock him up for at least 4-5 more years. Hence the comment about having him through his mid-30's.

Even though NoPa still has a chance to become a solid 2C in the NHL, he is struggling to find his groove right now. I would hate for the Flyers to give up on him, but they do get a really good #2D for him. Patrick and a 1st...I would personally do it, but there is one issue...

They would lose either Sanheim or Myers to expansion....or the Flyers could do a 4/4 protected list, but then they will definitely lose a young forward (maybe Konency, maybe Lindblom, maybe even someone like Voracek). That's losing a player for nothing to make this trade. So Ekholm can't be just ok...he has to play like a 1B defenseman during his contract or the Flyers lose their value.

Do the Flyers have another player named Ghost? If the same I guess saying he improved from trash to cringe every time he has the puck as bounce back...I guess.

No way Seattle takes Ghost without the Flyers adding a sweetener with him.
