They should be putting fox in a bubble boy bubble the second he steps off the ice and locking him away somewhere between games.

I can't believe they are playing this game. If 3 Rangers go on the list in the last 24 hours, more will be soon I am thinking. But frank it lets just expose both the Rangers and Flyers and knock them both out

At this point, lets just all agree to root for a different team. Our season is maddening and uninspiring

I fail to see how trying to sign Barkov to his next contract would be that much different than trying to fit Eichel's in. I would take Barkov over Eichel every day of the week, but we'd still have ~$30M on the books for 3 guys, with multiple players coming off ELC's each of the next few years.
My feeling is that we will go forward with superstar wingers, superstar d-men, hopefully a superstar goalie, and will have to find value at center. Not the normal recipe for a Cup, but hopefully the depth will offset it.

Bringing in Barkov would probably signal the end for Zibanejad in NY. Strome would be gone as well. Thats 9.85m opened up to which we would have to add to figuring he would command 11m per year. Figure they stick with Chytil and put him at 2C, Barron at 3C and Rooney at 4C.

Can they keep both Zib and Barkov... I dont know, I gotta do the math.

As good as Barkov is, that seems like a lateral move to bring in a high priced player. We need two good centers and a third for depth.

Seriously, this search for a better center is on our team already. If Zib could just figure it out again...

Edit: And I REALLY love Barkov. Just losing both Zib and Strome and replacing them with one guy sort of defeats the purpose of getting Barkov.

Who else is out??
If Johnson is back in and Tarmo is making his debut, someone other than Fox has to come out.

The whole point here is that Barkov, 2 years younger than Zib and an all around better player, can lead these guys. The expectation is Chytil can slot into the 2C role, with peoples projections and expectations of him why not? Ive been high on Morgan Barron and see him as the perfect 3C.

I did the math on a spread sheet because Im ridiculous like that.

The one thing that works heavily in our favor is the fact that we do have so many ELCs that will be turning into arbitration bridge deals for 2-3 years. Why? I gives us the cushion we would need to keep Zibanejad at a 9m contract (or less if he keeps playing this way). This will also give us enough of a buffer for the NHL to recover from an economic crisis and hope that the cap will unlock. It will also give them enough time to buy out Trouba in 2024 which will relieve them of at least 4m.
