He may not be happy with the idea of a one-year deal. But, Buch had better realize that he is going to be one of a bunch of guys who get (frank)ed by the 4 year flat cap. He is due a raise, for sure. But, I doubt he will be near the $5M level. Under normal circumstances I would think $5M is about right for him. This summer? I'd say $4.5 max. Maybe even more like $4.25M
I know someone has to be moved. And, I know it likely is Buch. But, that would be good value for what he gives us.

Oh I bet he'd be really annoyed. He will definitely want his pay day contract. But being an RFA, this is the business, so he will have to choose how he deals with it. If the Rangers were to be able to sign Buch at 4.25Mil a year, that would be a steal IMO. I can see his value on the market being 5+. Not saying that's what the Rangers should sign him for at all.

Does this happen very often? Honestly asking. It seems counterintuitive that someone would move from wing to the middle as they take a big step up in competition.

PLD was a winger most of his life, and the big one... Mark Messier was drafted a winger lol. Also believe Zetterberg may have been a wing when drafted.

I always thought Moose was just moved to the wing from center due to Edmonton's roster make up.

The year Barkov is having is tremendous, so Im a little concerned about what the cost would be to get him. The one good thing with him unlike Eichel is that he has leverage with a NMC. So if he puts his foot down and says this team and only this team then someone will hit the jackpot.

Moving onto next season... personally, Id like for them to get rid of Greg Brown and David Oliver. I want to see someone come in who can really pull the skill out of these guys. The extreme would be to fire Quinn and the whole staff (except Jacques Martin). I know Ive not been a Quinn-bandwagoner but I also kinda want to consider this year a mulligan. Im extremely curious and would very muck like to see Malhotra be our head coach.

I fail to see how trying to sign Barkov to his next contract would be that much different than trying to fit Eichel's in. I would take Barkov over Eichel every day of the week, but we'd still have ~$30M on the books for 3 guys, with multiple players coming off ELC's each of the next few years.
My feeling is that we will go forward with superstar wingers, superstar d-men, hopefully a superstar goalie, and will have to find value at center. Not the normal recipe for a Cup, but hopefully the depth will offset it.

Yeah, probably. Resign Buch, Kravs/Gaut fight for middle 6 RW and add to the cupboard with Podkolzin. Would stink to see Kakko go elsewhere, especially given his much improved season even with a lack of pts. At least he would be across the continent if he did start to light the lamp.
