Don’t be sorry, when Gauthier is a top 6 winger elsewhere, just remember that I called it - Slimtj100
You do admit he is under Buch/Kakko and probably Kravs on the depth though |

1 year deal for Buch though and I believe we have more cap space coming with stuff coming off the books(buyouts). Could be wrong though - mdw7413
This would be a good situation to have if we can get a bridge deal for him.
It would allow the Rangers to maintain some position of strength is an opportunity comes before them to trade a package for a solid 2C. Not saying at the end of the day Buch would even be part of that.
It will be interesting to see what becomes available for the deadline this year. |

I just don't want to lock down another winger long term for big money though
Zib and Strome are UFA's after next season, center is the priority

TJ's love for Gauthier goes beyond the ICE.

Yeah thats kind of my thinking. Gives the Rangers a little cushion to figure things out. |

Well with a one year deal(or even 2) it gives the rangers some time. Even if they wanted to keep Buch long term I doubt they could, but it will give them some breathing room for a year or two |

I know almost nothing about the cap or space so take what I say with a grain of salt. But if they could keep Buch for another year or two without any issues, I think thats how I would go |

Yes. I’ve just been pissed when guys have been out and there he was on the 4th line. I get how difficult it is getting in the lineup now. He had a good 4-5 game stretch where he was doing everything he needed to do. Then he got scratched again🤷🏻♂️
I just think we’re gonna lose him and we’ll be sorry. His type of game combined with his size and speed doesn’t grow on trees |

I know his game isn't built for it, but if they could make a really good 4th line and have him at RW I would really like it. |

What makes you think we don't already do.
A bridge deal makes sense, and the Rangers have a history of making that happen. So maybe that will occur.
I would like to see the Rangers solidify the 3-4 lines. So I wouldn't be surprised if we see some moves regarding PGD, Gauthier, Lemieux...
And then Rooney named captain. |

Wonder if there’s still a speck of possibility Kravs could become a center down the road. Could have sworn he was drafted as someone who could play both. If not, Laf still a real possibility one day as well. Might start to see them try either or both there toward the final 1/4 of the season if the team is way out of it. |

He may not be happy with the idea of a one-year deal. But, Buch had better realize that he is going to be one of a bunch of guys who get (frank)ed by the 4 year flat cap. He is due a raise, for sure. But, I doubt he will be near the $5M level. Under normal circumstances I would think $5M is about right for him. This summer? I'd say $4.5 max. Maybe even more like $4.25M
I know someone has to be moved. And, I know it likely is Buch. But, that would be good value for what he gives us. |

Does this happen very often? Honestly asking. It seems counterintuitive that someone would move from wing to the middle as they take a big step up in competition. |

Phil DiGiuseppe is on COVID protocol list...may well be the reason Rangers canceled their morning skate. Essentially unprecedented not to skate in AM following day off. |

So the benefits of trading him are plentiful. Save money, creates room for others and add to a position of need.
You’re depending on unproven guys if you do trade him, but at some point you have let these kids loose and be the core of the team. To me it still seems like they won’t let the horses out of the barn yet, ie-kakko, laf.
