I love Lindgren and he and Fox have been and are a great combo but the way he plays concerns me longevity wise. I believe that in the future he will not be someone the Rangers should commit to long term.

He abuses his body the way Callahan and Girardi did. He's young but it's only a matter of time before all that abuse adds up.

This is why I say Trouba gets bought out in 2024, room has to be made for Schneider.

We will eventually end up at in impasse with all these defensemen in the same way the Predators did. They had Shea Weber (who became PK Subban), Seth Jones, Roman Josi, Ryan Ellis and Mathias Ekholm.

For us is its... Fox, Miller, Lindgren, Lundkvist, Schneider and potentially in 5 years Zack Jones. With Trouba already on the books. You can call it a "good" problem to have.

Oh yea. Having too many skilled developing D-men is always a good thing. They are also good trading chips if there is no more room, because every team needs quality d-men.
Disclaimer, not advocating for trading any of the Rangers Dmen.

I could see Jones being the one D prospect that they trade

Suppose it’s

-our first this year
-Buch
-Jones

That’s a nice package to get a 2C. Not saying eichel, just a center in general

Eichel discussions should be gone completely

no way we should consider adding a guy ever with spinal concerns who's traveling around the country looking for 2nd and 3rd opinions

nah way (frank) that

people getting on Larry Brooks case today because he is saying that the Rangers have a decision to make, sign Buchnevich long term or trade him.

It's actually a very good topic Brooks wrote about.

Yea. Trading from a point of strength could really help. Trading Buch is such coin flip. Is the guy finally coming into his own to be the guy the Rangers new he would be when they drafted him, or is this a plateau and we run the risk of overpaying. That is such an unknown.

I have not been on the Eichel train at all for many reasons. Add his personality into that mix. No way we need any part of a head case in a rebuild.

I'd rather keep Buch and wing it on a center than a 10Million dollar guy with a bag of ferrel cats in his head.

to me the biggest reasons not sign Buchnevich long term are that we have two left wings signed for a lot of money long term and two young right wings in Kakko and Kravstov that need to be top 6 RW's in this league or we really (frank)ed up

then you add Lafreniere onto of that, the wings are just too loaded to invest a lot of money long term into Buch

unless they are trading Kakko or Kravstov

Since Day 1, Ive always been a Barkov guy and to that point have been pretty against the Eichel trades. I think, when they brought in Quinn the plan was always to make a run at Eichel and reunite them. Right now, Im hoping that plan gets buried very very deep down a hole.

I still think Barkov, regardless of how well he plays, will not stay on the Panthers. Hes a professional and it wont be on his word. I simply dont think the Panthers, in this economic climate, can afford to sign Barkov. The financial implications of signing Barkov to such a contract to a team that barely draws fans will mean the team will be in a constant state of being good and rebuilding because they wont be able to resign or sign anyone.

Well I have to admit, I accidentally flagged your post. I can't even make up a funny reason, as your post is logical and sound. Ooops

To your post, I agree. There are good reasons to trade Buch and good reasons to keep him.
To keep: Playing very well and more consistent. Provides a scoring veteran presence to stabilize the young guys. Would keep if the Rangers plan to move a wing prospect to secure a center, like you said.
To Trade: He is playing the best he has even been, and may yield more in return. Glut of wingers, like you said. When the Rangers become contenders, he may be past his time for when the Rangers need him, making the time now to trade him.

Not an easy situation. Though having such talent on the wings is a great issue.

I just think with Chytil & Shesterkin this year, Zib, Strome, Fox & Kakko next year, along with Trouba's terrible cap number, and the flat cap over the bunch of seasons we're going to need that Buchnevich money to spread around and hope that some of our younger guys on entry level deals out play those deals/bonus numbers. Luckily between Smith, Shattenkirk, and Lundqvist we have almost 15 million coming off the books but we will need that in the coming seasons to get everyone taken care of.

If Buch takes a deal under 5 million/season to be team friendly then I could see it working out, I still don't know how Boston got all their guys to take such team friendly deals, but it explains why they are able to compete year after year.

definitely no need for them to explore trading Barkov now though, he's cheap as hell and they are having great season, definitely a summertime/draft thing topic though

Rangers could acquire him and give him an extension beyond next season's 5.9 mil in July

winning the lottery again would be a nice nugget to have for that trade offer

All, thanks for carrying the blog. Worked Saturday night after the Sabbath until 2am and then all day yesterday. Going to try and get a pre-game blog up. Key is can they repeat how they played Saturday or will that be a one and done again.

I really like the fire I see in Buch. He seems all grown up and finally gets the effort it takes to be a consistent pro. I know someone has got to go but it’s gonna be a hard one to decide.

Kakko seems to be the classic over thinker cause the talent is there. Maybe a sports psychologist can help.
