You keep saying this. He does not have a NMC and can be exposed.

You are correct, players with full NMC'S like Wheeler need to be protected or asked to waive their NMC if a team would rather not protect them in the expansion draft, players with modified NMC'S or NTC'S like DeMelo do not have to be protected if a team doesn't want to use a protection spot on said player.

They should definitely protect Stanley over DeMelo imo, as for the forwards I'm not sure who they protect after the obvious of Scheifele, Wheeler, Ehlers, Dubois and Connor.

The remaining notable forwards that are under contract or are RFA are Copp, Appleton and Harkins, Lowry is a UFA unless re-signed by then, guess you protect Copp and Appleton, personally I think they should make a trade with Seattle to take DeMelo which would free up cap space and keep them away from Berdin and Harkins and would open up a spot for one of the young dmen on the backend.

In Chevy we trust. He'll do the right thing. I'm not worried.

Anyone notice how Rexy virtually disappears on HB when the Jets are doing well. Especially true when the Jets take 5/6 points on his beloved Leafs. I quickly realized he was a troll several years ago when he bashed the Jets pre-playoffs and then virtually disappeared only to re-appear when the Jets lost the first two games against Vegas in the third round.

He only thrives on here when it is failure.....just saying.

I have a sneaky suspicion that he may be posting under a new name.

I am not too worried about losing Harkins. I do love this player. I do though think that with Gustafson and Vesalainen waiting in the wings that it will not be as significant of a loss. The only thing that does worry me about Harkins is that he goes to Seattle and becomes the next William Karlsson. I did make mention of that in my expansion article for Seattle.

I am thinking right now that it will be Copp, Appleton, DeMello or Stanley that gets picked up. It might end up being Harkins or Berdin also. If any one of those guys goes on to become great for Seattle then good on them and good on Seattle. The job here is to make a solid decision with some reasons behind it. There will be lots of second guessing with almost whoever is lost but if there’s anything I’ve learned in business it’s that there is nothing to be gained by looking backward. You can’t dwell on the past.

With the flat salary cap there is an upside to losing a veteran like copp or DeMello as their higher salaries will come off the books and free up more to improve in other areas

I think last night was the first time all year that I liked Lowry’s game. There was a little more intensity, definitely some heavier hits and the goal was a well timed and hard earned bonus.

I really like the idea of trading for Dumba, not sure if it’s realistic opportunity and if Minnesota would trade him to a central division rival. If the cost was Poolman or Samberg and a pick?A hidden cost of that acquisition would be a player who is a free agent in the off-season

Minnesota is looking like they're a playoff team so doubt they'd be looking to trade Dumba even with the expansion draft to consider for them.

I don't get what you mean about hidden cost and for which team, yes Poolman is a free agent but Dumba has two years left and so does Samberg, I'm not a big Samberg fan but he's been solid with the Moose and his ELC will give the Jets two seasons of a cheap dman next season and the one after, don't think that's worth parting with when there's going to be RFA'S who'll need raises like Pionk and Dubois, adding Dumba would be great but his $6M cap hit would fit for now but in the long run it could be an issue.

The hidden costs are exactly what you are seeing... Pionk, Dubois, Lowry, Stasny, Perrault and more all need contracts and the money Dumba gets would likely consume too much cap space to allow for signing everyone the team may want to sign.
