I like Gaudette's compete and drive. He was a Hobey Baker winner with a wicked shot – it hasn't translated as well to the NHL but with the news of his stomach issue holding him back from training/gaining weight, I'd take another year flyer on him to see what he can accomplish and gain over the summer.

I wouldn't be surprised to see him traded, however. I think either he or JV will be packaged, and JV's contract is a bit harder to deal right now.

These teams have to choose three to protect:

Tampa: Hedman (have to NMC), Sergachev, Cal Foote, Cernak
Carolina: Skjei, Pesce, Fleury, Bean (that doesn't even include if the resign Hamilton)
Avs: Johnson (NMC), Girard, Toews, Graves, Makar

Ya, even Vegas and a couple other teams have a defenseman that could help.
Not sure if the Canucks will have room for an addition like that though. Hopefully they figure out a way to make it happen.

I bet your favorite song is Call me Maybe.

I don’t actually like Gaunce, it’s “The Gaunce” I believe in. The 4th line guy making < $1m who gives you 8-10min a night of low event hockey, chips in the odd goal, works hard and either progresses higher in the lineup (Burrows) or gets replaced by someone from the farm team. Gaudette is a good candidate to be the next Gaunce. Could be a decent 4th liner if they work with him, but... Motte is that guy now, but he will be a UFA after next season, will likely be in line for a raise, no thanks.

- 1970vintage

He's making 1.25 now. With the flat cap, what do you think he'll get up to? 2 mil? Would much rather pay to keep him than have to pay an older UFA, especially with some of the young guys coming up they can round the team out on their ELCs

Vegas is exempt, unfortunately.

But ya, with the cap and Seattle expansion, there should be some more movement around the league come the summer.

And by room, you mean cap space?

Yep better Neal than Lucic but both players are trending way down. Yep Looch is exactly as advertised 9 points in 27 games and a few fights lol

Must be nice looking up at the Oil in the standings...

- LordHumungous

It’s been a long time for the Oil to get any headroom on my once Mighty Flames. We still play each other a few more times and I think after the last game Mr Drysaddle might have to keep his head up. Those cheap shot slash’s on the little guys won’t go over well with our new coach.

On another note, Gadjovich scored again in Utica's last game, now has 8 goals in 9 games, Lind is at a point per game pace, be nice if the team could get a look at these 2 guys this season, somehow.

Good game last night . Flames beat the 12-14 Habs
- VANTEL

Well somebody has to beat them, might as well be us.
How was Demko’s last game? Did he skip Ian’s practice?

So does that mean Seattle will be exempt when Betman brings Portland in next?

I'm not sure if you saw Benning's presser but the Canucks are dealing with a pandemic right now.

Call them up at the end of March. With quarantine of 14 days, they would be eligible to play in 10-12 games following the TDL. Will be helpful for the team to assess how ready they are to compete in the NHL. Maybe OJ will get another crack at the lineup then, too.

Ya, that is what I am hoping for as well.
Hopefully they start moving out a couple guys sooner than the TDL.

There is only one thing I am envious of about the Flames, it’s not their crap team, it’s not their geographical location, it’s not the red neck attitude. It’s that the club finally has a coach that can hold players accountable, and will deploy solid systems of play, and know when and how to make timely adjustments.

Canucks, not so much....err, not at all.

It does provide hope. But I’ll wait til we play 10 games under Sutter before I get too excited.
Green has a good scowl though.

I only watched the first 2 periods as I wasn't willing to stay up for the 3rd, but Demko played great. They team let him down BIG TIME. 1st goal Schmidt fvcked up and he didn't have time to get set. 2nd goal would normally be a shot that he would've gotten, but Perry was in the perfect position to go around. Again the team let him down there. I honestly forget about the 3rd goal, but I am pretty sure the team in front of him fvcked up again and he couldn't bail them out for the 100th time that game.

Aw, yes. It must be part of the development programme. Sit and observe the little things others don't see.
