Better off to trade Motte for a second or third and sign Gautedde for under a Mil to play 4th line.

Keep Motte

Seriously one of the best bottom 6 players we've had in the last.. 7 years...?

Trade Sutter. Trade Pearson.

Honestly, if JV can keep playing like this, keep him through this season. Assess in the summer if there's a move to be made.

Resign Gaudette: they just figured out his stomach issues so hopefully an entire offseason of training will allow him to put on some more muscle.

Gaudette scored a nice goal, but I really wasn’t impressed with his overall game. Hopefully this gives him some confidence going forward.

That wasn’t a very exciting game, it was a terrible 1st two periods, third was much better.

- Makita

Good to see you back ref...sticking around or just a quick pop in to check on the troops here?

4 of the last 5.

Really like Hamonic a lot more than Tanev

- VANTEL

Agree we are starting to see that Hamonic is effective when healthy and plays tough Hockey. Tanev is a muffin.

I was out for a walk, listening on the “radio”, but weren’t the Habs outshooting then something like 12-3 for the first 15 min of the period?
- 1970vintage

You would have thought so, Canucks showed no signs of puck awareness, no one was looking to receive a pass breaking out of the zone, everyone skating out while the Habs are pressuring.

Motte will need a raise, and since we’re still two years away they should get what they can now and develop a new Motte fit the future.

He's been coming around a lot the past few games

Wonder if they continue playing well together the rest of the season if they'll resign him next year.

Would still love for the to trade for a better RHD like Cernak...

I'm all for moving Sutter and Pearson for assets at one point but if they flirt with a PO spot not much will happen. Gaudette and JV will come around a bit more but also need to be put in positions to succeed. Keep starting Demko and ride this out hopefully with Petey/Motte back it provides another added boost.

He's only 25, same age as Bo. I'm fine with him here for another 3 years – what he brings is harder to replace (PK, energy, etc.) than just developing a young guy.

They need a new 3C more than anything. Hopefully Lind can continue to make that transition?

3 points back of a playoff spot

Unfortunately the Canucks are entering that grey playoff bubble territory. With how wildly things swing if the Canucks go on a run they might be able to make it in. If not, they're just going to keep their assets and hurt their draft position

Agreed.
Even when the last man back(defenseman) is carrying puck out of the defensive zone, the other defenseman is breaking up ice, leaving no one able to defend if/when something goes wrong.

lol with the present shambles for #teamwhiner we are in tough spot as you said. It's a catch 22 but I would rather see this club play hard and tough and focus on winning games...regardless where that takes us.

One of the things I said to Lefty earlier is if you trade Pearson who are you bringing in and how much are you signing him for?

It's always easy to trade half the team when you are losing lol. Wishful thinking.

If we are 10 points out of a PO spot close to TDL I'm sure JB will take calls on Sutter/Pearson. But for right now they ain't going anywhere.

Yeah if they are out of a playoff race they will look at moving pieces. I don't think their is a big appetite to get back draft picks this year . Canucks wanted a top 9 scorer in the same cost range for Jake (Heinen)

Motte is a very high energy guy and signed next year for 1.2 mil . Why would you want to trade that? Lockwood plays the same game and will come in on an ELC in two years when Motte's contract is up.

Boston is in a bit of a tough spot in that division and could use som help for the PO's. A shrewd move would be Sutter/Pearson for Debrusk and a pick. Would actually make that deal lol

Podkozlin

There was an article on the Athletic the other day (ya, I know) talking about resigning Pearson based off similar players and their signings/drop offs at the same age. Lots of graphs. Basically, resigning him now is a mistake based on what it'll take versus what you'll be able to get back for him. There are a few FAs that will be available this summer if the Canucks don't think Podkolzin is ready for top 6 minutes, that won't cost as much as Pearson likely will that can fill in for the next year or two.

Basically, like last year, there's going to be a squeeze on that middle of the pack UFA market and the Canucks could replace Pearson via that route if they're not completely sold on Podk.
