Yeah but I think you need talent to push those guys down the lineup not guys that are marginally better than fringe NHLers - Feds91Stammer
While there are some areas I'm surprised Jank ranks, I'd say all around Lowry is more than marginally better.

Lowry has too big a cap hit. The idea would be to get a cheap 4C that can maintain the defensive effectiveness of the checking line and allow Blueger to slot up to 3C so we can use our cap flexibility on a higher end scoring winger. Lowry eats into our cap too much to accomplish that. |

No update on McCann, but he won't be playing tonight. ERod taking his place next to Geno. - Rinosaur

I’m not putting too much value in 20 game samples. Lowry is not a needle mover. |

Doing that for someone who’s not under contract moving forward is exactly what we should not do. We need to get back someone who helps for multiple seasons. - Victoro311

Is the idea to get a cheap 4C though? Do we know for sure that Hex/Burke are sold on Blueger as a 3rd line?

Well Blueger is better than Lowry so he would be the 3c by default imo. |

But if getting someone of Lowry's level and adding a top-six winger thereby giving Lowry decent wingers, doesn't it still vastly improve the team? If you have McCann and Zucker as your 2nd/3rd line LW rotation and you add a solid RW, you now have a solid rotation for the 2nd/3rd line giving you a good line.
I was really just thinking out loud here, but I think there's more than one way to accomplish the Pens' goal of upgrading the team. |

Yes but it’s a cap thing. You can’t do all those things. |

I have no idea what Hex and Burke are thinking but the Blueger line is currently the 3rd line and they’re constantly praised so I imagine that there’s some degree of comfort with Blueger at 3C. |

Sure but you need more scoring depth at the top of the lineup. You have limited cap and limited assets so if you’re going to spend any assets it should be a top down approach.
I would target 1 higher end rental (try to extend): Tatar or Palmieri.
1 cheap middle 6 tier rental: Ryan, Haula, or Grigorenko.
1 cheap 4c rental: Glendening or Soderberg. |

Blueger is a 3c. Lowrys cap hit is too high for 4c |

McCann-Blueger-Ryan (wow)

That’s a competitive forward group. And all holes are plugged in the event that Zucker doesn’t come back or the eventuality that if he does he’ll be super poopty due to the long layoff. |
