If he wants a big extension you consider moving him at the deadline. You are placing way too much value on a late first imo. Pens are average but they still have enough scoring talent to PDO their way to a cup. So even if that’s a 1% probability take those odds vs just trading Rust for a pick just for the sake of rebuilding.

I mean it's not THAT bad. Geno and Tanger turning it around changes everything. Jarry playing better as well changes things. Matheson is our worst contract. And I think Pettersson can be moved to get a forward. Not that Petts would be my first option to move but you have to give to get. Plus we have way to much tied up in LD money wise.

Tojos issue is he is super hung up on the 1st round pick.

To be clear I don’t think they are good and I wouldn’t advocate spending valuable futures but they definitely aren’t in rebuild for the sake of rebuilding territory.

Jesus guys, I post a novel and all you saw was me suggesting an upgrade at 4c from Jank to Lazar.

He has actually played decent hockey in Buffalo on a poopty team. He isnt close to the player he was hyped to be, but he could be a really solid 4C for the Pens that would be cheap.

Zucker can be utilized with Sid and we'd be ok as well. Sully just won't do it. But I agree with you too, we can go that route and have McCann-Blue-Tanev be the third line.
- 668710

McCann is playing well with Malkin and Rust, leave him there. When Zucker returns, whenever the hell that is, put him with Blueger and Tanev.

Zucker needs to work his way up, not the other way around.

Sure we just disagree on the 1st. And off-season trade, who knows where it really ends up.

I'm also surprised you're giving them that much of a chance.

EDIT also if you take that run with Rust and he wants an extension, you do end up losing him for nothing which I believe you wanted to avoid.

TO WPG: Pettersson
TO PIT: Lowry + 2nd or 3rd rounder (whichever they can get)

TO NJ: The pick from WGP
TO PIT: Gusev (50% retained)

Jake-Sid-Rust
McCann-Geno-Kap/Gusev
Zucker-Lowry-Kap/Gusev
ZAR-Blue-Tanev

Obviously there's no defined 3rd line there. Either one can be your third line, but I think this strengthens the Pens without giving away too many futures. Also, if Hex was able to find a way to move Matheson instead, clearly that would be preferred, but I think we are stuck.

I think this gives the Pens enough options to rotate whichever players have the hot hand at the moment.

He sucks.
- Feds91Stammer

He isnt awesome but he is better than Jank, Sceivor, Erod, Lafferty or Angello. I suggested him as a very cheap add to improve the teams 4th line for a playoff run.

At least he can win faceoffs and isn't lost in his own end.

Malkin and Kapenen*

Rust has been playing with Sid and Guentzel.

Yea that works too, as long as McCann is still playing good. We all know he goes through his slumps.

We can do better than Lazar though. Shoot higher, like Forsberg and work your way down.

I'd like Lowry but I don't think Winnipeg is sweetening the pot. I'd be surprised if they moved him actually. If you are going for it I'd much rather pay a bit extra to get Palmeri. I have zero interest in Gusev.

He is awesome. 1. Bump Blueger to the 4th and have Lazar center Zucker and Kapanen. 2. Win the Stanley Cup.

It's that easy.

Obvious sarcasm...but no way I'm breaking up Geno and Kap right now.
