You really don't understand the difference between "separating the man from the puck" and "crushing someone's head into the glass"? Seriously?
- Nasty_Duck
Hockey play. Check someone's body and they hit their head on the glass, that is the game. If you don't understand the difference, then you are a biased fan. Sorry about that.

The only way players will respect one another is remove the mandatory helmet rule.

I think that this article sums up my thoughts pretty well... - Beatnic57
The NHL is letting this happen. Also fans have said it's part of the game. Targeting the head is not part of the game. Your going to see bench clearing brawls career ending hits and death. Guess nhl is in favor of this because they are doing absolutely nothing about it

Wilson only getting 7 games is a disgrace...shortened season or not. |

This is a statement by a biased fan. Wilson shouldn’t be allowed on the ice if he continues to try and injure players on purpose. That hit was insidious...period. |

Spear to the nuts while wearing a cup hurts, but not career threatening.
Hits to the head are career threatening. Wilson has been suspended a handful of times for similar hits. Wilson is the new Ulf Samuelsson.
Ulf was never this dirty, unless you are a Bruins fan.
How is Tom Wilson different than Matt Cooke? The Caps need to treat Wilson the same way the Pens treated Cooke--support the NHL and get the guy some help, preferably before he paralyzes someone.
Ovechkin is also a dirty player but his dirty plays are typically ignored. It sure helps to be a star when you do things he does. Im sure though everyone of us criticizing him would want him on our teams. |

Wilson, I've watched the replay several time, The principle point of contact looked like the shoulder/chest, but he was high so it glanced up and caught his chin. The one thing he could be criticized for in this case was at the last minute he change his angle instead of going right through the body (I think he did it to avoid hitting both players)
I'd say the suspension was just because it was Wilson.
For Ovi, I don't think he deserved anything more than a fine, I do find it ironic how Crosby did the same thing a few years ago to ROR from behind and for no reason and no one said a thing.

But Ovi does that in response to getting crosschecked multiple times and people are calling him dirty and calling for a suspension. |

WTF?
During that game where Bruins were "taking liberties" with Oven-Chicken, he speared one of them in the nads. And got a fine for it. wow.
- Nasty_Duck
It was good to see OV give it back as well...but the point is the same. If you are going to take liberties with OV then there will be 'other' repercussions as well. Something the Bruins should think of. Always dishing it out but never the ability to take it. Again I'm not condoning the hit but this is what happens (and should happen) when you go after star players. Is what it is.
It's like the Bertuzzi attack on Moore. People cry and whine about it being so dirty but the bottom line is that it wouldn't have happened if Moore hadn't tried to take Naslund's head off. Actions have consequences dude and it's a big-boy league. |

Principle point of contact was the shoulder/chest. That part was clean.
Follow through was arms to the head. I don't believe the head was targeted - it just happened to be at shoulder level since Carlo was leaning. But it's still worthy of discipline.
Given the bias towards certain individuals the hit is:
1) A fine if you're Crosby, Ovechkin, etc.
2) 2 games if you're a not a superstar
3) 5+ games if you're a repeat offender
7 for Wilson was on par with this. At least the NHL is consistent in its inconsistency. |
