Patrick Is a talent but also an Injury risk, I Identified the Flyers as one of 6 teams who can win It all this year just before the season started Ekholm Is desirable I'm sure for many teams but personally I don't see any real weaknesses with the Philly blueline.

Flyers should do it. Their time is now. Patrick is a drag on this lineup and isn’t helping. While he may round out flyers can’t afford to sit around and wait. Defense needs upgrading immediately to have a shot. Sanheim should be able to play RD with a solid partner like Ekholm

No thanks, we don't want Ghost either. It's nice to see Nashville finally getting in on the Ghost sweepstakes though. Not gona lie, we were feeling left out.

At this point the Flyers have been in the mix for EVERYBODY that's been available since the off-season. Have we left anyone out? 😂

If that’s what’s being discussed, there better be someone of value coming back with Ekholm.

I'm sure you know the Preds better than I do, but it seems the Ekholm is gonna go somewhere and the package of a former #2 overall and a 1st this year may be a win for them. The Preds have been mostly a great defensive team for a long while now. Is it time to look to offense?
- DANCER

Problem is the Preds have been looking for offense for years, but Poile hasn't displayed much luck or talent evaluating forwards lately... Or ever really. Even moves that look good on paper when me made them haven't panned out.

Honestly, I don't really want to see Ekholm get traded, I love him as a player. I do understand though that this team is a mess, and you have to give up something of value if you want to get something of value, an Ekholm has a lot of value right now. Which is why I want to see Poile be patient and get as much value for Ekholm as he can. If that turns out to be Patrick and a 1st, then do it if Poile's convinced he has to move Ekholm. All I'm saying is that there's no need to rush a trade just because Duchene got hurt. Doesn't really matter whose playing second line center for you when your trajectory is the cellar either way.

It's interesting to see a bit of a split between Flyers fans on whether this would be a good trade for them or not. Puts me on the fence on whether or not this would be a good move for the Preds.

Ek, let's pretend for a second your made up trade actually happens. Can you then walk us through the expansion draft?

Do the Flyers protect Ekholm and expose Sanheim or Myers?

Do they leave Ekholm unprotected, in which case they just trade Nolan + 1st for a rental?

Do they protect all 4 d-men and expose another young forward right after giving away Nolan?

Help us understand this.

So you say you’re hearing the Flyers higher ups are thinking of this? I thought you previously said you were in direct contact with Flyers upper management? Why didn’t you ask them directly?

Flyers defense is very weak. There is a need for 2-3 defenseman

Why in the world would Ek, or anyone else for that matter, believe making this trade would “separate the Flyers from the rest of the pack in the division?” If we acquired, for example, Patrick Kane, we’d only be marginally closer to competing with Boston, Pit, and Washington. What a stupid statement.

Speaking of the Caps, Flyers are going to get rag dolled tomorrow, especially after the beat down the B’s laid on them Fri night.

Seems like a lot to give up in a buyers market for a second pairing D man

Does Ekholm play the right or left side for Nashville? Is he capable of playing the right side?
- Big_E_88

Ekholm is a 2nd pairing Left D. Unless the Flyers plan to trade either him, Sanheim or Provorov for a Right D this does nothing to fix the problems. They are all too valuable to be on the 3rd pairing.

None of them can play the right side. Doing so on the PP is possible, otherwise only desperate teams try this approach. It creates a jarring weakness as the off-hand defender must constantly play the puck on the backhand, resulting in coutless turnovers and defensemen constantly on the wrong side of the puck.

Despite this, the Flyers are not not ready to be disposing of 1st round picks for mid-tier talent. It may be worthwhile for a cup-contender to throw away a high pick and prospect for a marginal addition, but it defies logic for a fringe playoff team to do so. The Flyers window may open as soon as next season, I would suggest it is wiser to wait for a more suitable trade.

Not really, just young. Provorov, Sanheim and Myers are good and will only get better. Braun is a steady veteran and Hagg and Ghost provide decent depth. They really miss Niskanen’s presence and if he were back, we wouldn’t be having this trade talk.

So steady veterans specialize in not getting the puck out of the zone once forechecking commences.

It's rather mind boggling how incapable Patrick is of finishing when he seems to do a lot right. The Sharp reference is painful- who knew Sharp was going to be a first line center on a championship team? It would be LESS surprising for Patrick to find his game as a great second line center.

I'd be okay trading Patrick for something more interesting. Playing Ek for a second --that is pure fantasizing--, I'd love to see us offer a package for Hughes. Patrick, Koneckny, Foerster and a 1st... Or maybe bundle Patrick in some kind of deal for Sergachev.
