If they are coaching them to not even try to tie up the stick of a man in front, that's incredibly terrible coaching. Maybe they are playing some type of zone that is confusing them about who covers the front of the net? - Tojo.
This is what I’m wondering. As soon as plays converge on net they all look like the three stooges. These are not bad dmen. While many of them may not be capable of outmuscling their opponents, they should be capable of reacting and positioning better.
They should be able to be in good enough to position themselves in a manner that leaves little room for players to get in that close.
The constantly get caught out of position down low. |

Agree, whether they can out-muscled guys or not doesn't excuse just not covering them. |

Glad he's getting to play instead of wasting away on the taxi squad. D is just too crowded even if it's mostly mediocre. Hopefully O'Connor joins him there soon.
Still think he could play 3rd pair now, they just pushed him up the line-up too fast. Did want to see a little more of Freidman so hopefully he isn't out long. - Tojo.
O’Connor was sent down too. Best place for both for now. |

I have come to terms with chalking this season up as kind of "lost". I have lowered my expectations - I don't think the Pens can compete with the likes of Knights, or Lightning, or Bruins on a consistent basis. Even if they will sneak into the playoffs, I don't think they will be able to win a single series against any team. Not with that Defense and not with those special teams. It also looks to me that Sid and Geno can't take over games and carry the Pens on their back any longer. Which sucks, but just the reality of things.
The roster has so many holes in it that it's beyond "Swiss Cheese" consistency. No real identity to the team either - they can have a great game right away followed by a horrible one. Like multiple personality disorder.
Meh! - chimpira
Don’t worry. Penguins will be back next season. Their deep farm season and litany of draft picks will ensure a quick rebound. |

Good to here. O'Connor may be a player at some point, but didn't seem ready yet. AHL is exactly where he needs to be now getting big minutes. |

Marino on his own is struggling and started before MM. But I have wondered if having such an unreliable partner is messing with him. Going back to Pettersson-Marino which has a comfort level seems the obvious move. - Tojo.
Good thing JR jumped the gun based on 60 games and signed him to 6 x $4.4M with a M-NTC for the last 3. |

I think it does come back to coaching but also every Pens player becomes a passive wussy under Sully. Petts used to have some fight and snarl to him, now he looks like a Sunday stroller in the park. |

Probably nothing the Pens have in terms of assets or cap space. I'm sure Buffalo would like to move Skinner and his contract. 0 goals and 1 assist in 18 games making $9M for the next 8 years. Ouch. I think Ottawa would be wise to look into this combo, but they are too cheap. |

Buffalo has no use for Malkin. The only teams that have use for Malkin are contenders who think he can turn his game around in the next 1.5 years, but preferably this year. |

This is why JR was the worst. He was the worst negotiator in the league by a mile.
Any defenceman who shows life gets $4M and at least 4 years. Even if you show no life you get $3M... ask JJ. Love Tanev, but nobody was paying him over $2.5M but JR.
Even in his trades, every GM knew when he locked in on a guy he would overpay. Not every time but Kap and Zucker are obvious ones. Same with the Hornquist deal not only did they get a better player with a better contract but we had to take Sceivor while Florida used that cap space to sign Duclair.
So happy he is gone. |

I am probably the biggest Sullivan supporter here but that is the type of loss that can be your death sentence. The Pens have always been like this though. They completely turn it off when they get a lead.
I dont like how the Oilers always try to run up their guys stats against poopty teams but at least they don't stop trying.
It doesn't help that the 4th line is unplayable but you can't give up 4 unanswered. |

Hard to see But wanting Malkin or him be willing to go there.
But that's about the only way to make the money work. |

Sully even kind of admitted in his post game press conference that they're not listening or responding to him.
