If it's for a player with multiple years on their contract why not?
2 first rounds and Boquist for Jack Eichel. Let's open that championship window back up.

- snakeyes0007

Buffalo isn't making that deal. Try Dach and Bovqist plus a little more. And then Bowman will be managing another $10M cap hit.

Ughhhhh other than Bickell and Seabrook what size and sandpaper are you referring to?

Kane, Toews and especially Keith that year were better at carrying the team and coming through when it mattered than Stamkos, Hedman and Kucherov were.

Crawford was also lights out after his kerfuffle in the first round.

The Hawks had winners in their prime with a solid veteran supporting cast and the bolts were still figuring it out. Not much more than that.

- fattybeef

Andrew Shaw played twice his size and brought a ton of sandpaper. Saad and Hossa were two-way players and big guys difficult to knock off the puck. Desjardins was not a small guy either. And Corey Crawford stood on his head.

2009-2010 was the pinnacle of a tough team to play. The cap and Stan watered down the roster for the next several years, but it was still enough.

Most playoff goals by a defenseman in #Blackhawks history.

Brent Seabrook - 20
Doug Wilson - 19
Bob Murray - 19
Duncan Keith - 18
Dustin Byfuglien - 14
Chris Chelios - 12

Huge amount of payroll on IR or LTIR - Seabs, Shaw, Smith and Toews.

Does Bowman get permission to spend to acquire a player that helps the team try to make the playoffs?

- RickJ

I have to believe that if Stan can improve this year's team without taking on a bad contract that goes beyond this season and without giving up too much, Rocky will write the check. However that scenario might not be available.

Seems Keith knew last Sunday

Brent Seabrook said he shared the news with Duncan Keith after Sunday's game: "He's been attached to me like he's wearing a leash. ... He's come over a few times and just sit there. It's been emotional. He's my best friend." #Blackhawks

10m is the going rate for someone of Eichel's caliber. If Seabrooks contract does come off the books that offsets most of Eichel's contract for the next three years.

I agree with Dach and Bovqist + a first being more realistic. Not sure if I make that trade, but its close,

Haven't seen how much money comes off the books with Seabrook retiring, That absolutely has to be a priority for Chicago. I would even entertain a trade of Patrick Kane as well, The Hawks could buyout Keith this summer too.
- Shady1962

Kane's contract is not easily tradable. Besides, who else is going to fill the seats on this team right now? Anytime he touches the puck, we want to see what happens. Keith would be traded before he'd get bought out. His actual salary for the remainder of his contract is much lower than the annual cap hit, and that's something that the smaller market teams look for. Also, if they left him exposed in the expansion draft, no question Seattle would take him. Otherwise, I envision both players playing out their contracts here. (Edit: Keith has a no movement clause, so he won't be exposed in the expansion draft unless that's what he wants.)

It will be very interesting to see what happens this off season. Presumably the insurance company manages the huge $ owing Seabrook, Shaw and Toews if he has to hang them up. Eichel could be fit in but at what cost in trade?

Seabrook’s cap hit still counts against the cap in the off-season, can take his cap hit off the books in-season when he can be put on LTIR.

It is also sad that they put Shaw on LTIR, probably means the end of his career also. Amazing the physical toll it took on these players to win 2 or 3 cups. More amazing that Kane just keeps on going and going.

I just heard the Seabrook news and have finished backreading. I echo the thoughts of others regarding his play and leadership and what he has meant to the team the past dozen years or so.

He was my favorite Hawk player over the years. So many of his plays and actions are burnt into my memory. Several OT winning goals, especially the one against Detroit; the Backes hit; his talk with Toews in the penalty box in the Detroit series, to name a few.

Good luck Brent. You're still a young man. Get that hip replaced if necessary so you can enjoy life with your family.

It's still amazing to see that the Hawks have almost $26M in salary on the shelf right now.

Bowman said once Shaw starts feeling better from his concussion, doctors will determine if it'll be possible for him to return to play.

Ehhhh, they still cant defend. I don't think any one has advocated a trade to add players for a playoff run but moving some players for futures or assets sure makes sense.

6 players away is still a lot of players.

The elements missing are talent and not allowing a crap ton of shots every night.

Cap Space is an ASSET and the best way to get a return on that asset is to be a facilitator in a trade that we take on Cap Space in return for Draft Picks

Have a feeling he will be one of the players not protected if he's healthyin the off season

Kane doesn't and hasn't ever done anything physical in the game of hockey. He's small and was smart not to do so. It's not amazing that he keeps going when you look at how he plays.

That's a shame to hear about Seabrook. Kind of a crappy way to go out when the body just doesn't do want you want it to anymore.

If you think about it though, he still put the team 1st. He could have hung on and tried to play or gone on LTIR but, no. He retires. The team no longer has to be concerned about his cap hit, NMC, none of that. Pretty classy move if you ask me.

Hopefully I'm on team white at rat hockey tonight so I can wear my #7 Seabrook sweater.

I've watched this play soooo many times over the years. Today is the first day I just sat there and studied it. I always thought he just "whiffed" a bit on the puck causing the knuckle. I never knew it hit off the defender and changed directions. Either way, I get chills watching this. But wow, never knew that.

if there is any trade discussion if im Stan i hang up the second Dach is mentioned. This kid is a keeper and imo will be a better over all player than Eichel.

Tune in tomorrow night for the Flames at Edmonton.

Johnny Hockey, Sam Bennett and a bunch of their buddies better stock up on Preparation H because Sutter's hot poker is going to get shoved up their nether regions as soon as he sees something he doesn't like.
