Seabs was one of my favorites for all of the reasons already mentioned by others. Stick Tap and Salute.

I wonder if the timing of the announcement is a precursor to personnel move. Maybe acquiring an expiring contract of a player that could actually help the Hawks playoff drive this year.

Or it could be he just came to the conclusion that his body was worn out and he wanted to eliminate the questions and the mystery.

They need to retire a lot of numbers.

28
27
7
81
2
19
88

50,10,30 (eddie) are all debatable.

If the Hawks are smart they do 7,81,2,19,88 and 50/10 (if they make the cut)....all at once.....what a ceremony that would be.

- SteveRain

LARMER ! Absolutely

81, 19, 88 for sure down the road.
2 and 7 I think so.

50 for sure !

Do you think this Seabs announcement is related to the Rockford announcement earlier in the week? Maybe Seabs gets an executive position with Rockford organization?

Not sure I like the idea of honoring Seabrook by slagging other Hawk players. Yes there’s no doubt Seabrook helped Keith’s career, every bit as much as Kieth helped Seabrook’s. And Toews helped Kane’s career just as Kane helped Toews’. Both Seabrook and Toews took a physical pounding so Keith and Kane didn’t have to. As a result Kane and Keith were rewarded with career longevity that Toews and Seabrook were not.

There is an under appreciation for what 7 did....and he wasnt showered with personal accolades or gets the undying affection from pat foley that Keith has gotten since 2009-10 or the excuses (remember the skate debacle as to why his game slipped when Foley was pumping him for the norris?)

My point is 7/19 weren't as physically gifted as 2 and 88....no questioning that and without those 4 off setting their counterpart it doesnt work......

The financial side to all of this DOES matter and it matters a TON because when you reward aging, depreciating assets on past performance and not looking at the future performance you have to weaken your team as a whole....unless those players live up to their deals. Are the Hawks willing to lose a Kubalik or DeBrincat or Murphy to give Toews a similar cap hit as Kane?

Seabrook isn't to blame for his deal. I have impingements on my hips, have a buddy who had a full hip replacement when he was 40...I know I have issues in the am getting loose walking to the bathroom and I never sniffed the toll Seabrook did....so I can understand a little of the pain he was in and appreciate him trying to battle back from his surgeries and sadly...his body woudln't allow it. I had to stop playing men's league because if I moved sitting down in a weird way my hips would "pop"......

My fear is IF 19 comes back, there is no logical reason 19 is paid like a top 1% in the game anymore. He's not there. He has flashes like 7 did, but Bowman and hockey ops need to live and learn from 7's deal.....I would never count out 19 trying to justify everything he could to preform at his best.....but it seems he is starting to break down a little like 7 was at the end of the cup runs.

Out of all those series from 2008-09 to 2016-17 that Detroit will stand out. Detroit's last push with their core, Hawks expectations through the roof after the point streak to start the season and having to rally down 3-1......games 5-6-7 were great hockey. I would have put LA 2015-16 WCF up there if they win that game 7 in OT.....

Being at game 7 vs Detroit in person and the emotional rollercoaster after the Hammer rocket being disallowed because of the BS call on saad........remarkable atmosphere.

Arguably the top moment for me as a season ticket holder.

I had the joy of being at the "longest game in Blackhawk history" in Anaheim, and was lucky enough to be at the end where Kruger batted in Seabrook's deflected shot. So much fun to watch that game.

What will be interesting to see if they retire 50....that really opens up the debate for 10. Both never won much individually but had multiple cups.

27 needs to be up there. He was an egomaniac but he was so damn good when he was here.

Q should also get something up there.....

Seabrook: "I skated with the taxi squad Saturday morning. It was tough, it was hard to keep up.

I'd been skating for 3 weeks...and it would lock up and I couldn't push or pivot or turn.

Talking to Dr. Terry on Sat night, it confirmed what he already knew a month ago."

Seabrook: "I felt the best I'd ever felt coming into the training camp for the bubble... I felt incredible, I felt awesome. Skating and training.

It was the Monday before Christmas, I woke up and I couldn't walk. And it's been like that ever since."

Seabrook: "They've talked about a hip replacement. I don't know if that's going to be tomorrow or 10 or 20 years from now. My plan is to manage it and live a great life. I want to go skiing with my kids."

Seabrook: "I know I've given a lot of guys poop over the years. Media and friends and teammates. But I always liked having fun and I always looked at it as fun."

Seabrook: "There's no cartilage in my hip. Lots of arthritis in there...We did a lot of stuff with injections and cortisone...

I told my body to screw off for 15 years, and it finally turned around and told me, 'I'm not going to do it anymore.'"

Seabrook on this year's team: "Jeremy's got them firing on all cylinders... The biggest thing is they're all having fun. The last few years have been tough around here. It's great to see."

I love all the players as you do but there has to be some additional criteria for retiring numbers. I think entry into the Hall of Fame being one. Winning a top personal trophy another. Retiring good player’s number diminishes the honour for great players. Two of my favourite players were Seabrook and Toews but both were very good, neither was great.

As much as it hurts to say, the Leafs have a tradition I’d like to see the Hawk’s adopt. Honoring the beloved players with their jersey in the rafters and retiring the numbers of only the great players.

Even if the Hawks have to carry the cap hit for the next 3 years, they do not have to protect him in the expansion draft, so that opens up another slot to protect someone.

The Hawks now have almost $23 mil. in LTIR. Is Stan planning on making a move? Bad contract and picks?

It's a shame the line of Soderberg, Janmark, and Kurashev that was dominant yesterday, 2 out of the 3 will not be on the team next year.

Let me clarify. Toews and Seabrook were great hockey players and better leaders but neither were superstars.

Huge amount of payroll on IR or LTIR - Seabs, Shaw, Smith and Toews.

Does Bowman get permission to spend to acquire a player that helps the team try to make the playoffs?

I think the Magnusson retirement opens the door for other guys. I know he did a TON off the ice and I will never bash him, as he was my mom's favorite player but if he is up there.......

28/27 to me need to get up there. 2 links to that era.
Chelios....I could care less. I respect his game, but I was never a fan

81 and 19 never got individual awards here outside of Toews conn smythe but I think both have to go up there.

7 was the defacto captain. Guy may wear a letter but doesnt necessarily mean he is the guy guy's go to or look to. As you pointed out, game 4 vs Detroit in that penalty box when the captain is melting down.....who goes over there? The captain. Always bothered me a bit 7 didn't wear a letter......

2/88 are locks

50 is debatable as he 2 cup wins and if you put 50 up there, 10 has to go up there.

I also think Q needs a banner like Jackson has on the Bulls side. Same with Bowman.

No you can put him on before, you just don't accrue his cap space during the year to have for the TDL.

Great question....think it's dependent how they come out of this brutal March schedule. They continue to show they can battle, may be worth it on an expiring deal to help get the young guys as much playoff experience as possible.

I always chuckle when they brought back Chelios for his heritage night and he got booed off the red carpet.

Going to the wings didn't help, and seeing arrogant sauced Chelios in the cubs booth multiple years with the cup was hard to watch.

I respect his game, and his leg being numbed before Colorado in game 4 in 96 still baffles me.....

Count me in the minority on this - the worst mistake the team could make is to make a rash move to add a temporary asset this year. They are playing great hockey to watch and are working their assess off. Still, even with Toews and Dach this team isn't all that much different from last year, and neither Toews or Dach is playing this season.

They can weaponize the cap space IF the Wirtz family wants to spend that extra cash (i.e. absorbing a horrible contract) with a pandemic still around. Not sure if insurance covers them for Seabrook, but if it does, that would help.

The difference between 2006-2007 and now is that team had way more prospects in the pipeline that looked to be more than 4th liners. We are two or three top 9 forwards and probably two top 4 defensemen away from being a real Cup contender. As is probably half the NHL. Maybe those guys are on the roster now, but I have my doubts.

The warrior element is missing from this team, and I'm not talking about fighters. Until that is addressed, bide your time and count this year as experience with the longer term as the priority.
