And what an upstanding guy for not just going on LTIR. He is and was the ultimate team guy.

Statement from Blackhawks Team Physician Dr. Michael Terry: “Over a three-month period from December 2019 to February 2020, Brent underwent successful surgeries on both of his hips and his right shoulder. He has worked extremely hard to recover from those surgeries but has a long-term issue with his right hip that is preventing him from playing professional hockey. We have tried all available conservative treatments, and nothing has worked well enough for him to live life as an athlete. We support his decision to prioritize his long-term physical health.”

That's a shame to hear about Seabrook. Kind of a crappy way to go out when the body just doesn't do want you want it to anymore.

If you think about it though, he still put the team 1st. He could have hung on and tried to play or gone on LTIR but, no. He retires. The team no longer has to be concerned about his cap hit, NMC, none of that. Pretty classy move if you ask me.

Hopefully I'm on team white at rat hockey tonight so I can wear my #7 Seabrook sweater.

Where are you getting that he isn't just going on LTIR for the rest of his career? Similar to Alex Steen, announcing he is done playing is not the same thing as actually filing his retirement papers. He is announcing his LTIRetirement.

Dammit! I was so hoping that he would be able to come back and play. Congrats to him on a great career!

There are collections of "All the Blackhawks playoff goals from 2010, 2013, or 2015. It is insane how many huge goals (the OT's!) that he either scored or assisted on.

Of all the hockey plays Seabrook contributed to the Blackhawks over the years my favourite memory wasn’t something he ever practiced or probably thought it was something he’d ever do. The image of him standing half in the penalty box calming an incensed Jonathan Toews down was perhaps more important than the overtime goal he scored later. On a team of star players Seabrook ranks as one of my favorites. One of the saddest parts of Seabrook’s career was reading supposed Hawk fans mock him for his diminished skating ability and other skills. Perhaps the most disheartening comment was from one poster who, with no proof, questioned Seabrook’s commitment and professionalism insinuating he wasn’t training hard enough in the off season.

You're correct. looks like the Hawks placed Seabrook, Z. Smith and Andrew Shaw on LTIR.

Seabrook was my fav dman on this team during the cup years. Not the flashy Norris winning guy, but excellent rounded player who could do it all.

It's too bad that injuries took him out of the game too early here. I'm sure if his back wasn't acting up he would have been a contributor on the ice still.

He is what, #3 in Franchise games played? #3 in goals from a Dman for the Hawks. I hope they put #7 in the rafters.

How many 2 on1s did he lay out and stop - Warrior!!!!

Warrior, very true. Very sad to hear this. What an excellent defenseman he was. What a team mate to play through all those injuries for years. Hope he's able to at some point live pain free and enjoy the rest of his life.

Out of all those series from 2008-09 to 2016-17 that Detroit will stand out. Detroit's last push with their core, Hawks expectations through the roof after the point streak to start the season and having to rally down 3-1......games 5-6-7 were great hockey. I would have put LA 2015-16 WCF up there if they win that game 7 in OT.....

Being at game 7 vs Detroit in person and the emotional rollercoaster after the Hammer rocket being disallowed because of the BS call on saad........remarkable atmosphere.

Arguably the top moment for me as a season ticket holder.

I don't know about all of you but I am getting more and more vibes of the 2006-07 Hawks. Really can see the progression of some of these younger players and how they aren't intimidated by championship calliber teams. Almost like Bowman is building this team again similar to how they did it in pre cup runs.....bunch of D, talented Fs.....question is who is going to be the Hossa type elite F they need to fill that hole?

Without Seabrook, Keith;s career path is entirely different. the hits and bombs Seabrook had to handle you could see it every game........HAd 10 times the shot Keith did.

His skating died because we as fans had no idea his hips were going....explains a LOT.

The biggest off ice lesson the Hawks hopefully learned is also related to Seabrook and that is rewarding aging players with massive deals. That last deal was awful and that isn't on Seabrook, that's on the hawks. That mistake can't be made again....and when 19's next deal comes up, assuming he comes back, we will see if Bowman has learned. The days of 88 and 19 being paid equal is long gone.

that's fair.....but they likely will need another polished top 6 player who can be a 200 ft beast and play in all situations.

Nobody will replace Hossa, he was a generational two way player, he will be replaced by multiple forwards playing a 200’ game or a defensive game. We are already seeing that from both Dcat and Kubalik, I can’t believe how strong Kubalik is on his skates. Guys like Kampf and Hagel also play real good defense. The forward group playing defense is the biggest difference from a year ago, they need to keep building on that, that’s a recipe for success.

50,10,30 (eddie) are all debatable.

If the Hawks are smart they do 7,81,2,19,88 and 50/10 (if they make the cut)....all at once.....what a ceremony that would be.

Next announcement will likely be a role the Hawks give him as a mentor for young players coming into the organization or team ambassador or as an assistant coach.
Great career, solid guy loyal to his team. In an era of salary caps and free agency, Seabrook was a rare commodity. Not many teams win without guys like him.

Not sure I like the idea of honoring Seabrook by slagging other Hawk players. Yes there’s no doubt Seabrook helped Keith’s career, every bit as much as Kieth helped Seabrook’s. And Toews helped Kane’s career just as Kane helped Toews’. Both Seabrook and Toews took a physical pounding so Keith and Kane didn’t have to. As a result Kane and Keith were rewarded with career longevity that Toews and Seabrook were not.

To me it would make sense, since Q always seemed to partner the rookies or inferior dmen with him a lot after the Cup years.

You obviously didn’t get the memo, Q hated rookies.
