Realistically their isn't a move that can put them into contention on D. Even Ekholm. So I'd look to acquire a UFA to hold down the fort for the remainder of the season in our top 4 until they can come up with a plan in the offseason.

I've mentioned earlier that Arizona has a few UFA defensemen like Demers, Hjarmlesson, and Goligoski who could come in be better than Gus ,Hagg, Braun playing higher minutes.

Braun and Ghost I can live with as a 3rd pair option. Float Hagg in there when needed.

From Calgary why are you not interested in Tanev?

the amount doesn't bother me, but the length is an issue for sure.

Given the Flyers depth at forward, you don't think acquiring Ekholm wouldn't push the Flyers at least into the final four?

That's annoying. Hawks get out of one of the worst contracts in the NHL....again.

Haven't we gone through this already? Why do we need to rehash this? Bill has already answered this question regarding Giroux's leadership style. I think we should let this one go. You can think what you like about Giroux, but the guy has 17 points in 18 games this season, playing on secondary lines and switching often between center and wing. Numbers don't lie!

It's not about the star power of the name per se, it's about how a player fits with the group and his linemates/D partner. Niskanen was an above average all around D but not a star. He was, however, a perfect fit last season.

Team is second in the division with 12 ROW in 3 less games than the Islanders (13).

Im glad I look at the standings every once in a while, otherwise I would think we are the worst team in the league in line for a lottery pick.

Any opinion on Adam Larsson Bill?

Seems like a pretty underrated, minutes-eating guy. Entering his prime, too. Word is Holland hasn't even approached him for an extension yet.

I guess getting Ekholm could make that possible, but lots of what ifs involved...

What are the Flyers losing from their roster? Makes a pretty big difference, got to give up something of strength to add to another.

Do all the players play better and become more consistent game to game?

Those are the two big questions right there.

1. David Savard - Blue Jackets
- jd250

Savard would be a perfect fit.

Problem is, most PO-bound teams would love to add a dependable warrior like him, too. Also, not sure the Jackets would part with him. He's a Torts favorite.

Seems like he could be worth the risk depending on the price and of course whether he re-signs.

I've thought about Larsson myself and I just can't figure out what the cost would be. Obviously a Ghost or Gus would be completely off the table for Edmonton, way too much redundancy. Would it cost a Konency? Too much for a rental I would assume. Would Edmonton really take a 1st, but how would the Flyers fit him without other moves?

I would see what the price is. Am willing to part with Gus or ghost or Haag. Cap would be the first two guessing.

I was thinking more as a summer move. Oilers are still in PO position.

Actually I would be all for that, actually would be very happy about it depending on his cost and term.

I mean Gus can walk and if they could find a taker for Ghost it would be icing on the cake. A very formidable top 4 with Zamula and York in the pipeline.

I think, only speculating, that Nashville is going to want picks and NHL close prospects, so we shouldn't lose anything from our NHL roster this year to get Ekholm, of course the ED is another factor. I think we saw last night the Provorov was noticeably better playing with Braun than Ghost, so I think getting Ekholm would really give the depth to our D that we already have in our forward group.

Yes but have to compete with Toronto. Give them ghost for Larson. If Larson walks we have the space to go for Hamilton.

Or try too anyway.

Even if it was just assets (probably something along the lines of 1st, Frost and/or York and another asset) the Flyers would still need to shed salary and that is not something easy for any team right now.

Why would Edmonton want Ghost? I don't even think he breaks the lineup unless injuries. They already have a ton of PP specialists (Barrie, Russell and Bear). He may be able to edge out Russell, but that could go either way.

Tough call. I don't see them getting past Boston with him (Ekholm).
