Is it weird that I have no idea how to interpret cm for height? Canada is weird -- we have metric for almost everything but stick to imperial for oddball things like height/weight (in casual context). - mjones242
Dear sir! I am 189cm's tall! Please have a look at my official license!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

advancing to round 3 means you won round 2
pretty sure I am reading this properly - senstroll
Let me put it to you in a simpler way.
If the Leafs are 100% to make the playoffs, and then 50% to win every series, it would look like this:
50% to advance to round two.
25% chance to advance to round three.
12.5% chance to advance to Stanley Cup finals.
6.25% chance to win Stanley Cup. |

In official documentation and for medical purposes, metric is absolute. But my brain just doesn't work that way.
Granted, my brain doesn't really work in any great capacity... but there you have it. |

I mean, it's all arbitrary, right? It's just weird that Canada's arbitrariness is so inconsistent.
Then again, at least we don't use "stone" for weight. |

I get that, but doesn't it change if he officially retires and sends in his retirement papers? |

Take a look at the actual article in the Athletic.
As the highest favourite in the Stanley Cup finals is TB at 22%, the way you are interpreting the numbers can't be correct. |

I completely agree. We're kind of in a suck hole being so close to the US. Europe is basically all Metric, Australia is 90% metric and we're 60%ish.

Ya I guess, not sure why they do this. Just go to the beach and stay on LTIR until the contract is over. |

I'm wildly guessing that he is announcing he will never play the game again, but not actually filing his retirement papers.
IIRC, if you officially retire, you forfeit your remaining salary.
Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong on this one. |

I am
the stanley cup column would add up to 100% for all the playoff teams, since each has a chance to win by making the playoffs.
so he runs 50k simulations, Leafs win the cup 21% of the time and TB wins 22% of the time. Makes sense to me since they are pertty much the top teams at the moment. his model favors skill teams like Leafs/TB
The projections are based on 50,000 simulations of the remainder of the season, which factors in each team’s projected strength, current health, and their strength of schedule (which includes opponent strength, venue and rest). Each team’s projected strength is based on the projected value of the players on its roster based on Game Score Valued Added (GSVA) and can be found at the bottom of the article. You can read more about GSVA and the model here.

Yes.
Which is not the same as the Leafs have a 21% of winning the 4th round, should they get there.

if he has officially retired, there should be a cap recapture penalty... - PatC80
His backdiving penalty isn't that extreme - his salary moved from $9m to $4.5, which I think falls within the rules that the contract may not change in value more than 50% from the highest salary, and the year over year variation was also within the rules which is within 35% year-to-year.
Where they should catch Seabrook is in the 35+ contract. Because the contract extended beyond when Seabrook turned 35, I think the Hawks should be eligible for his 3 years of retirement salary.
I don't think they can technically LTIR it after this year now that he's retired.
The only thing is I'm not sure if it qualifies as a 35+ contract based on when it was signed, but by current standards, it would be a 35+ rule. |

Well if they are in the finals, there are only 2 teams left.
so the odds would change/be updated after each round.
but as of today, since we only know the standings of Mar 5...all options are factored into the projections |
