I remember watching that series thinking the Leafs would've beat the Habs

Anyone seen Dom Luszczyszyn's numbers for playoff probabilities this morning?

Toronto Maple Leafs:

100% to make the playoffs. OK, I can agree with this.

76% to make it to round 2. That seems a little high - 3 in 4? But OK.

57% to make it to round 3. If I'm mathing correctly, that's making us heavy, heavy favourites to win round 2. Like, 75% chance.

37% chance to make it to the Finals. 65% to win round 3? Really?

21% chance to win the Stanley Cup. Just take a moment to look at that, breathe it in. Mmmmmmmmm. 57% chance of winning final round.

Don't bother trying to argue these numbers, because Dom uses numbers and spreadsheets and logarithms and math and stuff.

50% of the time, he flips the coin right EVERY time.

I would imagine he doesn't flip a coin - he has a complex program on his computer which randomly generates a head or tail.

Chicago continues to cheat the cap system at an incredible pace. Leafs did well with Robidas Island but they have nothing on the Hawks. First they squirm out of Hossa with Jockstrapgate now this baloney. Would do a happy dance if the league hit them with penalty on this one.
- winsix

I agree with you. Problem is that this can of worms was opened a long time ago and now it seems all teams are doing it. How do you allow one team to do it and not allow it for another team?

Btw. I love Calgary consistently getting more and more insanely demanding coaches. Mike Keanan and Ken Hitchcock must be frothing at the mouth in anticipation for the call.

He can still pick me up and throw me around. It's a VERY helpless feeling knowing you can't do anything about it. Kind of like watching the Red Wings now.

The league gave to Vancouver right in the rump roast with the Luongo contract, they can do something here unless the ghost of "Dollar Bill" still haunts Gary.

I think that was because Gary warned Mike Gillis what would happen if they gave Luongo that contract extension. Gillis said "Nah, I'm good." So when Luongo did retire, Gary said "Nah, I'm good."

if he has officially retired, there should be a cap recapture penalty...

I look at these numbers like this.

for example if they played each series 100 time or 1000 times or 10000 times..thats kinda how these things work, run the sims thousands of times and see how many times each wins.

Leafs win round 1 76% of the time
Leafs win round 2 57% of the time (lose 43%, feel about right with this season)
Leafs win round 3 37% of the times (lose 65%, not a great chance)
Leafs win cup 21% of the time, lose 79% (really bad odds they win)

It’ll be like Pronger I’m guessing.

No sense in retiring if he’s hurt and it’s going to cost his team.

Is it weird that I have no idea how to interpret cm for height? Canada is weird -- we have metric for almost everything but stick to imperial for oddball things like height/weight (in casual context).

I don't think you are interpreting this correctly.

Leafs have a 57% chance of advancing to round 3. That's not the same as a 57% chance of winning round 2.

Otherwise, they have every team as a heavy underdog for the finals.
