FWIW from Ben Pope:
It's not the press. Nobody is covering up anything. Nobody knows anything. Toews clearly doesn't want to talk about it yet and that's his right.
I don't understand why so many fans think something fishy is happening.

Toews. We want to know what is up with Blackhawks captain and three time Cup winner Jonathan Toews. If you're being forbidden to write about him, write about that. |

Strome working on the ice by himself this morning. Good sign for him. At least it is progress. |

Some notes about these projected lines...
Stamkos will almost certainly lineup along with Point and Palat. Cooperexperimented - GalacticStone
Last time I watched it was Stamkos and Kilorn with the returned Cirelli at even strengh. |

Back to my post from a few days ago w/o mentioning content.
I know the person who I heard this from is close to serious.
But after some self reflection I JUST went to the internet and found posts on the 4th pd and Hockeyfuture from December mentioning the same thing.
I honestly never saw them until moments ago.
I am wondering if the reliable friend with the news maybe said it was from close but it was the inter- web?
Again, not trying to defend myself, just state stuff.

We tend to remember that there were no preseason games and we think about how much the Hawks have improved since we played Tampa last. But they had no preseason games either and they have improved also. When you compare teams Tampa is better at each position and at each facet of the game. So in my opinion if we are competitive in one or more of these games and we get any points from these 3 games it is progress. |

How the mighty have fallen? Has Jokiharu regressed? is he just a product of BUF being bad? Have guys like Boqvist, Mitchell, Etc. passed him?
I don't watch enough of BUF to make an educated comment as to his play. - TheTrob
3rd pairing on a weak defensive unit and does not play special teams regularly. Still would take him over Nylander |

Hello, Chunk. I would respond to Mr. Pope that so many fans fear something awful is happening rather than something fishy.

I think a 6-0 loss would be the expected outcome tonight. - DarthKane
Yup, can see the Lightning doing that. But Hawks very fortunate they arent playing the Maple Leafs, now officially the greatest team of all time. Shut down McDavid like he was an old coal mine in Kentucky. |

Schedule for March is tough
Tread water and hopefully be in the 4th spot or within 4 points of it by April. Florida, Tampa, Dallas heavy.
Excited to see how far the Hawks have come since the 1st, 2 games of the year when they were dominated 10-3 vs Tampa. Hopefully they can get 2-3 points this weekend, starting tonight.
I was little shocked a guy like Carpenter wasn't included in the Athletic's list of potential guys being dealt by the Hawks. I get he's cheap, valuable, but the reward he can bring back woudl be decent. Teams always love getting those depth center and/or PK guys at the deadline. Sammy Pahlson, Michael Handzus types.

Is Rutta really a top pairing D-man, or is he there only because of handedness, or because Hedman is strong enough to protect him. - TheTrob
No, he's not a top pair, by any stretch of the term. He's a warm body who is right-handed. As another poster said above, Hedman is that good. He's had pylons or lesser partners shackled to him for most of his career. That's why it's refreshing to see Hedman get paired with Sergachev once in a while.

Don't think you'll see Carpenter traded. He's one of the two forwards who currently is signed through next season and meets the necessary games played the past 2 seasons that each team needs to expose in the expansion draft. Highmore is the other.

You just know the Leafs will f'up sooner than later - injuries, bad goaltending, defensive screwups. They have been doing it for 54 years.
I would prefer Winnipeg to give them a physical pounding in a 7 game series - they have the big horses down the middle to do it.

Haha...I know I follow the canadian tsn guys on twitter and I get the hype. 54 years is a long time but I just can't stand the leafs. Since the mid 90s it took off my hatred for them. They weren't much of a threat in the 80s to the Hawks.
Wendell Clark, Gilmour, even Mike Gartner.......and of course Felix.
I wonder if Paul Yserbart still wakes up in the middle of the night sweating on that wide open net Potvin robbed him of in the playoffs? |

Great point.....and he's cheap.
Keep on forgetting on this expansion draft dilemma and how it impacts teams long term vs short term planning on who they should deal.
Feel like this is like the 2007-08 debate I had back on the DH blog a long time ago......is it better to sell high on some veterans that could get draft picks, prospects back and weaken your chances at making the playoffs (see Robert Lang) or is it better to hold pat and push to make the playoffs to get the younger kids that VALUALBE exposure of how much the game ramps up, etc......I remember the quote after 2008-09 on how the Hawks were ecstatic to make the conference finals but then realized they were still only HALF WAY to the cup.....Such a long, long grind physically/mentally to win it all. |

I saw Doug Gilmour in the liquor store here the other day, can never get over how physically small that guy is to play hockey the way he did. |

Stupid Leaf fans don’t realize they are in the weakest grouping. Even if they get out of the North Division they haven’t seen the likes of Boston, Tampa or some other teams. |
