Where are the Oilers getting this cap space? Is Hyman replacing Nuge? - gergeswillems
Hyman is a good player. Everyone can use a player like him.
The Oilers need reliable goaltending that isn't in the form of a 38 year old playing the best hot streak he's played since his 20's.
Koskinen sucks and they're saddled with him for another year at $4.5. Chiarelli is like Herpes. A gift that keeps on giving.
They do have a bunch of guys coming off the cap next year (Smith, Chiasson, Larsson, Barrie, RNH) and Russell took $2.7m less to stay in Edmonton. That gives them around 18 million to toy. My friend (an Oilers fan) believes RNH is worth $8m year. He was pretty heavy into the Jack when he insisted upon this, so I don't know how much we should trust his word. I think re-upping at $6m would be ideal for the Oilers. But maybe there's room for them to find a goalie that isn't Koskinen or Smith. |

Ok which of you is in the Oilers blog trolling that one poor guy who is biting hook. line and sinker? I nearly joined in the fun but then remembered what it felt like to be the fan of the team like Edmonton after 3 stinkers in a row. |

I think Holland will try to sign Freddy Andersen. He lost out on Markstrom. It doesn't mean Freddy will want to sign there. But I think Holland will certainly try. |

I think it's the needs of teams like Edmonton or Colorado that will probably price Freddy away from us. I'd consider keeping him at the same price, but ideally less; I think his value is probably right in the Markstrom wheelhouse.

Some luke warm water on the party; so far we have had probably the easiest schedule in our division. Tonight's back-to-back against Vancouver is only our 3rd, and only our 2nd 3rd game in 4 nights this season. Fatigue may be more of a factor in the next part of the year.

at this point Winnipeg is the next closest team, and they're a fair distance back.
It's rather nice that their next 9 games are against the other playoff teams in the division. so basically, by the 32 or 33 game mark.....
Either Winnipeg will end up falling further back, leaving the Leafs WAY ahead of everyone else (12 or 14 points), or they'll win most of their games and the other two teams will be completely out of reach, leaving it a 2 horse race (with, hopefully, the second horse still a distance back). Sometihing like the Leafs 5 to 8 points up, and Montreal and Edmonton 20 points back. |

Halls cap hit as at 4 right now. 50% of that is 2M.
Mirtle said a few weeks ago the Leafs have 3.5 M in space from accumulation and taking pro rated cap hits into effect. |

I agree with you, he is just more subtle about his Leaf dislike. - Cush29
Jim Hughson is a canucks fan. Simpson in his draft year sent the leaf's a letter requesting they don't draft him. That's a fact. I suspect Simpson has a brain and knows everyone knows his bias but knows the leaf's are a cash cow and needs to be subtle |
