Hyman is an entrepreneur, he has several businesses and mainly his gaming company has really taken off.
Nobody is saying he will take less but his partners are located in Toronto for his E11 gaming company. He has other sources of income and if he has a strong desire to stay in Toronto he will simply have to take less to do it. So of course there is a chance he takes less to stay here. - Santo_44

Datsyuk was screwed by Mike Babcocks' insane player usage. Check out him and Zetterberg's TOI.
Wings should have won more cups.
It's so funny Babs plays his stars over 20+ minutes 1 single year and he wins the cup and decides "Nah I'm good" and reverts back to his old ways (2007-08 both played the most ever) - RogerRoeper

This is how it works, everyone will say Hyman is leaving and no cap and he'll sign an extension. Seriously, this happens with EVERY damn player.
The only players that leave are guys Leafs say goodbye to (Like JVR he was told to look elsewhere) |

Leafs may be forced to protect 4D this expansion draft which will leave Kerfoot open...Is this a year where it makes sense to trade him at the TDL for an upgrade at C where the C is an expiring UFA? They can sign said player after the draft or use the money elsewhere.
Staal, Haula come to mind. - Santo_44
They can't or they'll only be allowed to protect 4 forwards. |

Ron Wilson and Randy toaster-man could coach this lineup to a Stanley Cup win, let's not pretend Keefe is the big difference maker here.
Leafs deliberately tanked for Matthews after already drafted Marner (and Rielly). Then the financial strength facilitated the work.
I still think it's not done for one of the richest franchises in league to tank to be able to improve the roster. - MaximusAurelius
So what you're saying is, Dubas did such an excellent job of building this team that the coaching doesn't matter? |

A clinical study in the uncontrolled overproduction of serotonin in Leafs fans? - TheMussel
hopefully the study of the clinical findings won't be done by the hockey nerds (ANALysts)
on another note... after all the COVID nonsense, conspiracy theories, stupid (yes that is the correct word) people buying to those theories and the appearance of the average female who proports to support these theories... if there shouldn't be a clinical study into the long term effects of hydrogen peroxide on the brain... I mean it seems obvious that some of that hair dye must soak in through scalp?
I have questions - does it lead to loss of intellect in children?
does it make the user more prone to stupidity or gullible?
what about if its combined with the crap they inject in people's lips? etc
similarly ... is it clinically "provable" that being a nerd, or spreadsheet addicted makes you a better GM? or does the last summer or transactions signal that a more "balanced" approach is beneficial? asking for a Hab fan |

I fear Rielly wants to go home to Vancouver.
That's what will scare me until he re-signs with Toronto. |

Spreadsheet nerds have fantasy hockey teams. Data science is a little bit more involved and technical.

I think he is pretty good on the 2nd line as the LW. He also holds his head above water as the 3C but Engvall has looked better. Not because he is better but he is just a much better fit next to Hyman and Mikheyev.
Kerfoot is a good player and is worth his cap hit but he isn't exactly what we want at 2LW or 3C.
Staal intriges me, I wonder if he could play well with those two. We know Buffalo wanted Kerfoot in a Risto deal. - Santo_44
I as well. Is the Leafs on his no trade list? ah who care as long as he out from that tire fire. |

Exactly.
Meaning they can trade Kerfoot for an expiring contract guilt free.

Dermott
Engvall

Kadri with 15 points and looking bad defensively-Great! Tavares 21 points and brillinat defensively, he's done.. Both are 30 - RogerRoeper
Your comparison is Kadri to Kerfoot, not John Tavares. Stay on topic.
Kerfoot has been an effective, but not overwhelming top-6 winger.
Kadri typically gets the harder line matchups to allow the Mackinnon-Rantanen-Landeskog line to run rampant. His line with Saad and Burakovsky has been pretty effective, but neither of them should be considered "great talent". Replace Burakovski with Nichushkin and that line gets caved in.
Kerfoot is a poor 3rd line centre, and has very little defensive responsibility. Typically his line was rolled out against bottom-6 competition where it was about average in terms of overall success. He's a poor checker and is physically incapable of restraining anyone, except maybe Tyson Barrie. Kerfoot leads all NHL forwards in hits taken / 60 with 12.08. He delivers 2.8 / 60. I don't need grit, but I don't want to see a guy's spleen ripped out of his body on the ice. Again.
As a winger, he's a fast skater and is an above average passer with a high hockey IQ.
For the record, Kerfoot has also played more minutes with Tavares & Nylander than any other line combination (second & third being him centering Hyman and Mikheyev or him centering Vesey and Mikheyev).
Dubas has done a fantastic job, but this trade didn't work out, and it's honestly okay to stop pretending that it did.

Taking less and having to take less is completely different
