His skating has improved, he has gotten to the right places to score his goals and he isn't a liability defensively. 9 points in 24 games is fine, will surpass his point total from his last season with around 20 games to spare.

He's also not afraid to play along the boards which was a huge problem beforehand. He's far from useless. Bust? I don't think so, he's an NHL player. Should he have been picked fourth? Probably not, but there's plenty of time for him to get better.

Hey, some people it takes awhile. We all knew Laine and Matthews for that matter were a lot more NHL ready, Puljujarvi was not. His English was poor and his game didn't translate well to smaller ice surface; however, since he's come back he's shown considerable improvement which is nice to see.

Your team with 2 of the top 5 players in the world is clearly missing something. If you want to make excuses like only being 22 and taking longer to develop because he is European go ahead, that is your opinion.
In Toronto people make excuses all the time for not winning a playoff series: too young, bad goaltending , bad luck, Kadri's suspensions, injuries. The cold reality has been team defense has sucked for years, and it looks like Keefe has finally fixed the problem. We will see.

"He wouldn't be a first rounder", even though he's 16th in points from that draft class + was drafted by Edmonton, a notoriously poor team at developing players. He would easily go in the first round, albeit not as high as he was picked.

Some Europeans have issues transitioning to the North American game, especially if they can't speak the language, as Puljujarvi couldn't in his first stint. It's not even necessarily Europeans, they are plenty of good players currently in the NHL that were high picks but took longer to develop. Even Draisaitl wasn't insane in his first few seasons.

No (frank)ing poop, Chiarelli was the GM and made some pretty awful trades. This team has been mismanaged for years. The team barely had any cap to make moves this off season to fix their issues on the wings.
