yeah got that now, but it was not clear the way you wrote it first :
Playoff Format
For the 2020-21 season, the NHL was realigned into four divisions: MassMutual East, Discover Central, Honda West and Scotia North, with a 56-game regular season featuring only intradivisional play. The top four teams in each division will qualify for the Stanley Cup Playoffs, which will follow the traditional best-of-seven, four-round format. The first two rounds will feature intradivisional play (#1 vs. #4; #2 vs. #3). The four teams that advance to the Semifinal Round would be seeded by their regular season points total, with the No. 1 seed playing the No. 4 seed in one series and the No. 2 and No. 3 seeds meeting in the other.
The four teams that advance to the Stanley Cup Semifinal (known as the Conference Final in a normal year) will be seeded by their regular season points total, with the No. 1 vs. No. 4 seed and No. 2 vs. No. 3. - Karine Hains
hard to predict what could be the final this year then
maybe this year format will help the Leafs this season, but they dropped the ball last season vs a pretty average CLB team. Leafs are a season team untill proven otherwise.

Very hard indeed and it wouldnt surprise me if the seeding ended up being on points percentage rather than points since some teams might not be able to play their full 56 games schedule because of covid postponing and the likes...
Its unfortunate for Bergevin that he did not quell Brian Burke and few other out-moded commentators and columnists who incessantly and erroneously advocated the Habs being the best team in the North. Astute fans realized the team lack elite talent, has an immobile defense core and a goaltender in steep decline. Even recent discussion regarding the team's 5-on-5 strength is a misnomer. Most of the pluses came during the first 10 games when the rest of the division were still implementing systems. Since then, the Habs have been significantly disadvantaged, even 5-on-5. Reality has set-in and ownership is stirring.
Rumors indicate Geoff Molson has feelers out for potential francophone GM candidates. I suspect Bergevin is aware. Unable to trade for an elite scorer, it seem likely he made these rash coaching maneuvers in a desperate ploy to spark the team, knowing he wont be back next year if they do not play well-above their limited potential.

but why limit themselves to French candidates? hire the best available.
