Ouch. Ovechkin with a stick to the gonads of Boston's Frederic. |

I think Zadorov does not qualify on the "signed past this year" part as he is an RFA. Signing Bowey to 2 years gives the option to trade deHaan before the expansion draft (if Murphy is protected). In any case, as you say, all is covered.
Would say Stan and the rest of the front office did a good job on this. Don't want to lose any players but they have minimized the cost of the expansion draft to the rebuild. If the worst case is losing Carlsson or Zadorov, that is pretty good planning. - totem
Thanks for the correction. Forgot about Bowey and Z doesn't count unless he's extended.

Thought I read somewhere that the NMC would take precedence. In any case, I don't think the Blackhawks will even worry about it, they can protect pretty much everyone since most all the young guys are exempt (assuming they take the 7F-3D-1G option).
Maybe:
Protected:
Toews - Kane - DeBrincat - Kubalik - Strome - Nylander - Kampf
Exposed:
Wallmark - Highmore - Carpenter - Shaw - Quenneville - B. Morrison
Looks like everyone else is a free agent or exempt, including Suter and Kurashev.
Know you have been following this too. BTW, does the "boilermaker" refer to Purdue? - totem
They used Kessler as an example, he has a NMC (yes he still is under contract)

I have to believe a RFA either has to be protected or not, since the team technically has first rights to the player, unless of course he falls inside the 2 year window or whatever it is that makes them ineligible for the expansion draft |

Yes, correct, so many rules. Z probably not protected, but there has to be 1 unprotected dman that has met the games played requirement, and has to be signed past this year. Bowey and deHaan qualify for that; Z does not.
My theory is that they signed Bowey to give them the option of trading deHaan. Think if they do they will not get a lot, maybe a 3rd round pick if they retain half the salary. That would clear a LD spot for Carlsson/Beaudin/Kalynuk. And also give them back the 3rd that went in the Shaw trade. |

Most everyone is exempt and Murphy is the obvious 3rd D. To me the choice comes down to losing either Hagel or Carlsson. I would protect Hagel and risk Carlsson. They have more depth to withstand the loss of Carlsson more than Hagel.
7 FWDS- Toews, Kane, Dinky, Kampf, Hagel, Strome and I guess Shaw/Nylander
3 D- Keith, Seabrook and Murphy.

IIRC and its iffy at best, I think Seattle has to reach the cap floor with their picks.
They could go 8 skaters and a goalie and protect both Hagel and Carlsson but then risk losing Kampf. While he is not irreplaceable, Kampf is vg in his role and cheap. |

Wiz I guess your missing the point. Whether what you say is the truth or not it wasn’t your place to say it. It’s toews right to say or not say no one else’s I enjoy your draft pick website but this one should’ve stayed in your head - Abadseed
No, I didn't miss the point, and I understand you're point, it is his story to tell.
So, if someone in the public eye gets sick and declines to say naytung except they are sick, eventually they will make the decision that they better say more because the time period is only causing greater attention.
It is easy to come to grips with your own morality let alone th people around you, and honestly I may not have a monopoly deals around me but I have had people violently taken, even at a young age.
So if no one here runs around saying what I did, you cap the mistake.
Believe me, I hope it is not what it is, but I have no reason to not believe that the truth sets you free.

Second this. Might come down to Zadorov or Carlsson. Like them both but might be hoping Seattle takes Z and gives a little cap relief. I still think there could end up being enough cap space for a meaningful FA addition.

Kubalik doesn't have to be protected because he is among the two years or less players. Maybe put Hagel in his spot since he is a 3rd year pro.

I've lived 5 miles from Purdue for the past 13 years. Small world, great area.
