help with Mike Smith too when he got to Phoenix. Seems like he knows how to teach bigger goalies how to play properly. - mr.peanut
My thoughts are similar. Also the old adage of those who can do, those who can't teach - Burke was able to have a long and decent career despite his lesser talent which likely means he had to put more work into it, understand and push the fundamentals and learn to be positionally sound - sounds a lot like Price's ideal game other than Price having greater natural talent |

it's pretty rare to see stars turn into good coaches in general. Brind'Amour is one that comes to mind but he was never really a star i would say. - DoubleDown

I don't think it can only be defined in terms of points.. not saying they're bums, just bringing up the question

You're a bum!
Honestly they were stars, not superstars. Superstars like Gretzky probably make bad coaches.
Yzerman and Sakic are doing alright as GMs

You can have a great head for the game, but be a couch potato. Conversely, you can be a star player, but an idiot otherwise (see Patrick Kane). Point is production on the ice is a very different set of skills from coaching. |

ok but are either of them really good coaches? Muller has been an assistant aside from an unsuccessful stint in Carolina. Tocchet has never made the playoffs as a coach. |

Anyway I just didn't like the Sean Burke wasn't a great goalie I'll hope he'll be a better goalie coach statement from Karine. I expect better of her.

They made them last season, he even won a round. He head coached Tampa in their terrible years and now Arizona, hard to make a name for yourself. I would say he is still unproven |

Well most people around were ready to rip their shirts out and try to reinstate the Montreal maroons because he wasn't immidiately given the job.
