My bad, thought it was an NTC only.. I guess the other option would be to buy him out, but he'd be on the books until 2031/32.

Has to be the worst contract in the league, next to Carey Price's deal...

I like the leafs lineup structurally as it stands, I personally don't really want to add anything significant. They're fairly well rounded across the board, decent depth. The only player I think they need is Simmonds and we don't have to trade for him.

I like Dermott with bottom pair minutes in a more than "he's not Marincin" type way. He doesn't scare the (frank) out of me every time he touches the puck, and if he has to move up due to injury I feel comfier with him than most.

If I had to tinker, an 8th defenceman with experience perhaps? I really don't want to shake anything up. 🤷🏻‍♂️

I'm not entirely confident this team has the ability to grind the way a team needs to to go deep in the playoffs.

I would be shocked if the Leafs didn't add a forward to the group that can move up the lineup in a pinch and is defensively responsible.

We already have 8th d-men in the system. Again, if we're needing to dip into the well for someone better than Marincin, we're in a lot of trouble.

I do find the confidence in Dermott to be a much in these threads. As if he's a lynchpin to some delicate balance that would unravel the Leafs defensive game if he were lost. He plays 14 mins (60% oZS against bottom lines) -- let's not get carried away.

I have no idea how they figure out cap hits on buyouts, but his doesn't look too brutal from a cap hit perspective, especially considering the Sabres probably aren't going to hit the ceiling in the next few years:

I guess the only problem is that the Pegulas won't like paying a lot of money to make a guy go away.

It's up for debate, but I'd say the Sabres are probably better off buying him out than trading him and retaining half his salary.

Bobrovsky has 5 more years at $10 mil AAV after this season. Florida has a young stud goalie in Spencer Knight who's not far from being NHL ready. It'll be interesting to see what happens there.

I haven’t seen enough to be comfortable being one injury away from having Sandin being an everyday defenceman in the playoffs. If Dubas had any idea of moving Dermott, we’d be seeing a lot more of potential replacements. My guess is that he’s far happier having a defensive structure that finally works than the Leaf fan base.

I think we have enough bottom 6 forward parts to not need to worry about adding a third liner with truculence (is this still Bennett?). I’ll check with Max but I don’t think Simmons has died and our various third line combos have been really good.

If we want to add a forward, look for a rental that we pay from somewhere other than defence. I like leading the Division in lowest Goals Against.

Well the way he writes for the Toronto Sun, he should be.

My first of many random thoughts for today:

The Leafs should have outbid Scotiabank to sponsor the Division.

"The Toronto Maple Leafs have been playing very well lately, sitting atop the Toronto Maple Leafs' North Division."

"Montreal is currently mired in a slump, falling to 4th in the Toronto Maple Leafs' North Division."

It would have been glorious.

The exact same thing that happened to Roberto Luongo back when Vancouver had three of the top-10 goalies in the world.

What a time it was to be a Canucks fan.

The team was firing on all four cylinders.

Cody Hodgson was winning multiple Calder Trophies...

Barabanov should be in the lineup all day every day before giving Vesey even a sniff. At least Barabanov seems to have a ceiling which he's far from hitting, Vesey maxed out on what he can provide to this team in game 1.

maybe he should take a game off after that cross-check to the neck he took the last game

Dermott is a good bottom pair D, he does very well in the time he is given.
for 900k you cant ask for much more. I dont really notice him much, so thats good.

Dermott leads the Leafs D in xgf% and high danger hdCF% (by a lot)

again in the minutes he gets, he excels

I would argue that no bottom pairing defenceman is a lynchpin, but having to replace him with someone that barely has hair on their balls at a critical time is important. You're arguing the importance of being able to grind in the playoffs, if your option is to flick someone like Sandin in you may as well paint a big red bullseye on him before sending him in.

The leafs options after Dermott aren't hugely experienced. You're 1-2 injuries away from having Dermott in your second or top pair and someone with zero playoff experience and barely NHL experience in general from stepping in.

As far as forwards go, they're rotating 14/15 guys through the lineup all season and have yet to test Galchenyuk out. They're going to be 3-4 guys away from the same issue they could have on the blueline. Maybe they add a forward, I think experienced defence after Dermott is more critical.

Either way, I'm not looking at huge moves. 🤷🏻‍♂️

The funny thing is, Skinner is a decent player, but Buffalo has a way of making everyone seem worse then they are.

Id take sinner on a minimum deal if they buy him out

I'm just saying the 3 most popular names I saw this offseason for Leaf fans on CFACGM were Bennett, Crouse and Weegar. Forsberg seems to have taken over now though.

I still haven't been able to find a clip of that hit, but everything I'm reading about it says it's 1 game for Chiasson... An entire playoff series for Kadri.

Was there a difference?

I think Buffalo would be doing much better if they were playing a more aggressive attacking style. But Krueger has them sitting back and playing too conservative. Gallant or Boudreau would get alot more out of them.
