That would be a no brainer for me if I was Seattle. He's a damn good player that would generate some offense. Worst case, if the political poopstorm doesn't go away, don't resign him...

Tony having a 5.3 million contract next year in actual cash is scaring teams away, nobody wants to pay him that kinda money

I guess context is warranted for the situation, but 5.3 million for a 35-50 point right side defenseman doesn't seem that steep, even with his defensive inefficiencies. That's why I think it would be a good move by Seattle. Take the high risk high reward type of player from teams, when possible. It's not like he'd sign there after being bought out, so might be their only chance of getting a player like him. |

I just looked up what they look like. The proper name for the species is Patagonian toothfish - Bean_Dip
I didn't realize the conditions that they fish in. I read a book about one of the boats going down and some of the crew survived. Its crazy! |

I just hope Seattle doesn’t take Gauthier. I’d rather trade him for a pick or something then lose him for nothing. He’s the one guy I’d hate to lose for nothing
Hopefully they love Howden or Hajek |

Can they expose ADA in the expansion draft? - Bean_Dip
I wish they would kiss and make up with ADA

Although I just checked cap friendly and they could expose Strome and protect Gauthier. Howden exposed also. Protected Lemieux, Chytil, Gauthier and Buch just now. And the 3 NMCs
Blackwell could def go to Seattle also |

it solves the Rangers a headache, but I dont think they'll do it
Tony is getting bought out and if he's lucky he'll get a 1 year offer next year
I really dont believe his big point season has any cache any more, he needs to rebuild his career |

I think it still does, to a degree. It will be the ONLY reason he gets signed again. If he was a no upside, 5-7 D-Man he'd be gone already. Tony has undeniable talent/skill. Some team will take the risk on him given the upside. |

It probably does when needy teams weight the pros-cons of taking a flyer on him. I will say sometimes optics is more of an issue than reality. Not advocating what is a real issue or not. But if the optics in the media are really negative for taking a flyer on a guy, then the cons become larger. Doesn't always mean the cons are real. |

I don't think the Rangers had much trade interest in him after he season last year and before he got his two year contract, I think they definitely tested waters on him and didnt get much bite |

It is true that one productive season does not make you a consistent NHL stud. You need to put multiple years like he did last year on paper before you develop high end value. |

Gauthier hasn’t gotten a fair chance to blossom yet imo. He reminds me alot of Alex tuch and he’s turned out to be pretty good
Problem with him being on the Rangers is the top 9 is loaded on the wings
They probably should trade him to LA with one of these d prospects we have for one of the center prospects they have |

Oh I agree. I bet they tried. It may end up being a case of hopefully jumping on timing of the market for ANY interest in offensive d-man playoff bound teams. But that may be the smallest of windows and easily cut in interest if there are other players available. |

I think JG has a lot of potential. That move he made on Friday was legit. But he's not going to sniff the top-6 on this team with Buch, Kakko and Kravs ahead of him. Even if Buch is traded, Kravs and Kakko are the future. JG needs to develop more into a bottom-6 player. He's got the tools to make it happen, so it's completely up to him. |

I just see potential in him if he got more minutes. He doesn’t get nearly enough under Quinn |
