I was hoping Kap would do more of this.

I think Kap is unfortunately just a stupid player who doesn’t really know how to use his energy in an effective way the majority of the shifts he takes. Lots of hampster in a wheel moments with him where I see him skating fast back and forth but not really doing anything.

That’s not how getting in shape works. It’s harder to get in shape in the middle of a season if you’re out of shape because you can’t dedicate weeks and weeks to conditioning training since you have to focus on practicing for games and playing the games themselves three/four times a week. There’s a big difference between getting in base shape, which is done in the offseason, and getting into game shape, which comes from playing games when you’ve already established your base conditioning. That’s why guys coming back from long injury layoffs continue to look bad for the rest of the season. They lost their conditioning and can’t get it back.

Regardless, the reason doesn’t really matter, this has been a rough season for him.

For sure it's harder, but you can still get to ideal conditioning mid season. Monitor HRV and fatigue and add short high intensity skating sessions.

He is already at 18 mpg with significant low effort powerplay time. The problem is that the give a poop isn't there at all. If he barely tries during games I don't see him trying all that hard in conditioning.

True story. Pitt don’t need him. Only 2 teams in the last 30 years won with Letang, that’s a pretty small percentage. Numbers and charts don’t lie.

Looked like the Isle player got a bit of Letang's stick causing a change up.

If that's the case, then why is he playing? Why don't they give him a 2 or 4 week or however long "conditioning" break?

Otherwise, just trade him if he is going to be worthless this year due to conditioning. I don't want to take a chance that a 35 year old comes back and is worth his $9.5M the following year.

- Hockey66

Because as bad as Malkin is playing, they are still a better team with him and in a tough battle for a play-off spot. Can't afford to just sit him for a few weeks if that's even long enough.

I think he got a stick to the puck just as it was being shot.

Another reason it's good to just shoot - poop like this happens all the time.

Then they should trade him. They are a better team overall with him due to lack of depth, but he has been a net negative this year and will likely be for the rest of the year. He's certainly nowhere near worth the $9.5M cap space he consumes. Blueger is playing better at $700K.

No question. I mean....it's not even a discussion. Gotta hope he gets it going in the next couple weeks. I really like what McCaan brought to that line. He played a good north/south game tonight. Was tough on the boards.....and he actually took some shots. Hope he keeps that same mentality going forward.

Our 3rd line is our 4th line....we have two 4th lines a third line and no second line...worst special teams in the league below %.900 save percentage....
