This is badly missing the point. Why didn't the Flyers have a 15 goal 35 point 3rd line center last year?
- MJL

they had one, his name was Scott Laughton!

Again, missing the point. Obviously, if that is all Patrick becomes, he has not met the expectations of where he was drafted. That ship has already sailed! It is not likely that Patrick will ever be a top line center in this league. At this point, yes you absolutely can dismiss where Patrick was drafted. It is irrelevant at this point. Getting Patrick to improve and become a contributor and to solidify depth down the middle of the ice is all that matters at this point. It is already pretty much a given that Patrick will not meet the potential of being the 2nd overall pick.
- MJL

OK, I agree with you on this point. But now I have to ask. Do you spend the cycles getting Patrick up to this point, or do you cut bait and just get a vet player who is already there?

Laughton played a lot of wing last year. He is a better winger than center in my opinion.
Trading your way to it is not the best approach. Continue to draft and develop.

One simple question for you Holmes. Will replacing NAK with Bunneman alter where the Flyers ultimately finish at the end of the year? Yes or no? If yes please elaborate.

Of course he's replaceable. He stinks and won't ever be an NHL player. Luv NAK.

A new record! I skimmed 3 1/2 pages in 20 seconds and am 100% certain that I missed nothing significant, mildly entertaining, or the slightest bit interesting.

Imagine if the Flyers were actually good, we'd have nothing to argue about and it would be so boring. In Boston no one, and I mean no one is talking about the Bruins. All the talk is how bad the Celtics are and who will QB the Pats.
- jd250

From what I've heard, that has never happened. I've lurked for a few years before registering and there were always things to debate over regardless of team performance. I'm sure if you "dig into the archives" back to 2010 there was some back-and-forth. Ask the ones who were around back then, since it's hard to due a quick search due to there not being any year numbers in the datestamps (though blog entries are properly dated). I'm kind of curious what it'll be like when the Flyers win their next cup (I'm not superstitious, but fingers-crossed just in case).

EDIT: I think the Flyers are good. And before there's a debate, yes, no matter how good they are, there's always room for improvement, as cliche as it sounds.

i'm sure there were arguments over how richards isn't worthy of the c, stuff like that at the very least. not to mention, in 2010 it took them until the last game to even make the playoffs. then there was being down 0-3 to boston as well.

plenty to argue about.

They barely made the playoffs in 2010. Surely it was lively here.

(& @Ftown)

I was more thinking about the recent aftermath, when maybe expectations were higher for a follow-up run.

He is that bad; stats and the eye test verify this. As I said in my post there is always a GM out there who thinks differently about players despite what the stats say. poopty players get traded all the time do they not? Dont trade him then waive him.

I didnt say sit NAK either. I said he is replaceable. They would be a better team with Friedman as his small sample size shows this to be the case.

lol - I have good skimming skills - I saw your link but already read it via Twitter so didn't need to pause on it here. That said, it does put under the microscope my comment about nothing interesting as that, in fact, was interesting so I apologize for the comment. :-)

Joe Thornton as a rookie had 3 goals and 7 points in 55 games. Then 41 points his second year. Became an impact player in year three (60 points) and a point-per-game player in year four.
- bmeltzer

Zero chance Patrick becomes Joe Thornton II.
