I said it. He’s suggesting replacing a player with a worse one, so I did as well.

One simple question for you Holmes. Will replacing NAK with Bunneman alter where the Flyers ultimately finish at the end of the year? Yes or no? If yes please elaborate.

Coming out the draft, the warning signs were there. Patrick was said to be a pass first player more concerned with setting up his teammates than taking initiative. He was also injury prone and had below average skating (his words, not mine). Unfortunately this is not something you can teach, you either have these attributes or you don't.
- jd250

Patrick's skating is not an issue and is not below average. Again, your inability to properly assess a player shows itself.

Is Mars aligned with Venus or something? Everyone is arguing today

Then Mars aligns with Venus quite often, it seems.

Hyperbole is not going to help your case. You're just continuing to babble. I disagree with Bill that Patrick dropped off after the first period. Patrick did some good things throughout the game and his play in the game was a positive step forward.

Admit it, you're WRONG and its now been PROVEN! Kind'a sucks, eh?

Imagine if the Flyers were actually good, we'd have nothing to argue about and it would be so boring. In Boston no one, and I mean no one is talking about the Bruins. All the talk is how bad the Celtics are and who will QB the Pats.

“Holmes” the replaceable convo only started because you wouldn’t admit you said he stinks so you shifted the conversation. You were wrong.

Thornton's production was particularly bad in his first year b/c Burns made him pay his dues as a 4th-liner. Once his ice time shot up, his production followed suit.

A better example might be Olli Jokinen (coincidentally from that same draft year). 3rd-overall, didn't break 30pts until his 5th full season. Then went on a tear in his mid-late 20's. He bounced around a bit between some really bad teams, so that was a factor.

You dig pretty hard to find these kinds of examples tho. Most top draft picks who go on to be impact players start scoring show scoring pretty quickly.

The odds at this point of Patrick becoming an impact player are not high. However that does not mean that he can't be a contributing player on this team. If Patrick becomes a 15 goal 30-35 point top 9 forward and the Flyers win the Cup with him in that role. Are you going to be saying that he didn't meet his potential when they're raising the cup and passing it around?

Umm yea, lol. He certainly did not, he was the friggin second overall pick. Would be pumped if we won but I will 100% say he didn’t meet his potential

Yes being a 30-35 point guy as the 2nd overall pick is not reaching your potential.

YUP!

I can trip over 15G, 35pt players in this league. I don't waste the 2nd overall pick on it. Patrick was drafted because he was projected to be a top 6, and actually top 3, center in this league. If Hextall thought he was going to peak at 15G on the 3rd line, he would have draft someone else.

So though I agree that Patrick can be a useful player, e.g. maybe a shutdown defensive center that can occasionally score a goal, that can help this team, if this is all he becomes then he absolutely DIDN'T meet his expectations. Fair or not, you can't dismiss where Patrick was drafted from the equation.

SC's don't necessarily wash away draft disappointment.

This is badly missing the point. Why didn't the Flyers have a 15 goal 35 point 3rd line center last year?

Again, missing the point. Obviously, if that is all Patrick becomes, he has not met the expectations of where he was drafted. That ship has already sailed! It is not likely that Patrick will ever be a top line center in this league. At this point, yes you absolutely can dismiss where Patrick was drafted. It is irrelevant at this point. Getting Patrick to improve and become a contributor and to solidify depth down the middle of the ice is all that matters at this point. It is already pretty much a given that Patrick will not meet the potential of being the 2nd overall pick.
