Un fermier de Decker Lake, dans le centre-nord de la Colombie-Britannique, a surpris un lynx dans son poulailler dimanche. Il n'a pas réagi comme on pourrait s'y attendre : il n'a ni pris la fuite ni pris un fusil ou crié contre l'animal sauvage.

Au lieu de cela, Chris Paulson a attrapé le lynx par la nuque, l'a soulevé du sol et l'a tiré du poulailler. Puis, il l'a doucement grondé.

Il ressemblait un peu à un enfant pris la main dans le sac , raconte Chris Paulson.

Le félin était en pleine chasse quand il a été trouvé. Il avait déjà tué deux poules, nommées Freda et Birdie.

Le lynx avait des plumes dans la bouche, il ne voulait pas partir sans poule, explique Chris Paulson. J'ai essayé de le sortir de là, mais il était très concentré sur sa proie. Alors je l'ai attrapé comme un chat domestique le fait avec son chaton.






Le fermier explique que c’est ainsi que les mères soumettent leurs petits quand ils deviennent trop turbulents. Une façon, selon lui, de les rendre mous et soumis.

Les agriculteurs abattent souvent les animaux sauvages qui s'attaquent à leur bétail, mais cela n’a été le cas de Chris Paulson.

Je lui ai fait un petit sermon et je lui ai dit qu'il ne devait pas revenir, poursuit-il.

Ne pas déplacer les animaux sauvages
Après avoir mis le lynx dans une niche pour chiens, Chris Paulson indique l’avoir déplacé un peu plus loin dans la brousse.

Le lynx, renommé Tuffnut par ses enfants, était si maigre que le fermier et sa famille ont laissé les deux poules mortes à l'animal, après l'avoir déplacé.

Chris Paulson estime que le lynx pesait environ 11 kilogrammes. Il dit qu’il ne s'inquiétait pas trop pour sa sécurité, car il tenait l'animal sauvage par la nuque.

Jeff Palm, un agent de conservation de la faune à Burns Lake, a été surpris d'entendre que Chris Paulson avait pu attraper le lynx de cette façon sans être mordu ou griffé.

Des poules dans un poulailler.
Chris Paulson a réussi à sauver la plupart de ses poules en sortant le lynx de son poulailler par la peau du cou.

Cependant, il n'approuve pas ce qui s'est passé.


Nous ne recommandons pas de manipuler un lynx à mains nues. On peut vraiment perdre un bras, indique M. Palm.
