The is little doubt a coaching change was required. However, expecting the change to have much impact seems foolish. Ducharme may provide a brief spark to temporarily boost play, but unless he is also an elite goalie or an elite 1C, the impact of this change is unlikely to mask Bergevin's many blunders.

I speculate Ducharme and his eventual replacement will serve as placeholders while a proper rebuild is enacted. There is no point in delaying the inevitable. The window on Bergevin's retooling has unfortunately closed before opening. It has been 3 or 4 years since Price was an elite goaltender and Weber is far beyond his prime. Moreover. the off season additions of sluggish d-men and mid-tier wingers is far from enough to offset the continued decline of the elite players, especially when their depreciation is combined with the absence of a competent top centreman.

I hope the rebuild starts soon, is properly managed, and allows the Canadians to return to their once indisputable spot among league's top teams. It is time to bring this shame to an end.
