I've never understood the whole French speaking coach for Montreal, other than to appease the French speaking and writing media and fanbase(they have other fans and media as well).the habs havent won anything with a french speaking coach in a very long time.many great coaches have been passed on because they couldn't speak French.
It's a self inflicted problem that really needs to be reevaluated by the owners.get the best coach for the job no matter whether he or she can speak french.french can be learned easier than being a winning coach in the nhl.just my opinion.

it's true though that this kind of take is annoying AF when no other candidate suggestions are brought to the table... lol

I'm fine with DD as I'd want new blood and not a retread anyway but Karl Taylor would have been a good interview candidate for example

It's a move to stop the slide right now. He's an interim coach. If the team doesn't become better soon there's no saying he won't be

while Gallant has more experience, he was still fired. twice. and still unemployed. not sure it is the way to go tbh.
good luck to Ducharme, I am convinced he will do very well, especially in this league which is getting younger.

- fidopro

He brought a meh Vegas team to the cup final, that's the main argument for Gallant. That said I'm excited to see what Ducharme can bring to the team. Bringing Gallant or somebody in wouldnt be feasible with COVID protocols right now and the compressed season.

Would you see someone not speaking spanish coaching the Real Madrid or someone not speaking English coaching the Boston Red Sox?

That French thing is part of the Montreal landscape... Nobody can change that...

Yeah it's because of the coach our first line centers since the last cup have been Koivu-Gomez-Plekanec-Danault. Surely better coaches would have won championships with those lineups .

I'm aware it's interim. People are losing their poop over anything they can because it's what fans do. Waterboy asked for other quality candidates who aren't french, of which I'm more open to a new candidate than a retread from the (thanks Karine) french connection. So, if language isn't a determining factor a coach like Karl Taylor should be a top candidate
