I figure the Devils have the next 6 games to figure out if they are buyers or sellers because the rest of March is brutal. Hate to see another year of Hughes's ELC amount to nothing but should be able to get a decent return for Palms, Gusev, Kulikov, Murray, etc.

given the weakened UFA/Trade market, we will not likely see the same massive returns we received last year. That being said, we could see some solid returns for rentals (Palms/Vats/Gus/Murray), and I would be thrilled to do anything in our power to trade players/picks for the following years draft. That Shane Wright kid is the next McDavid. Not eligible for this coming draft, but the one after. One of very few players to gain "exceptional players status" and walk into the OHL as a 15 year old and lead the worst team in scoring (39 goals!). Already 6'2", 185 lbs, he is bigger than most 18 year olds. John Tavares, Aaron Ekblad, Connor McDavid, Sean Day, are the only other guys to ever get exceptional players status in the OHL.

So who will be a basement feeder at that point in time? Isles, Yotes, Wild, San Jose all look to be teams with weak prospects, and locked into expensive veteran contracts. I wouldn't mind having one or two 1st rd selections in that years lottery.

We would be doing that anyway if that where we ended up. I don't care one way or the other from a Devils perspective, nothing changes for us. But from a league wide perspective it would be hectic having 2 drafts that close, would likely be a ton of activity, so i'd be all for it.

I just wish they would make a decision already and set the draft date, because they've been talking about this idea for months now
