Dude, the goal made it 1-0, with 54 minutes left in the game.

The Leafs are one of the highest scoring teams in the league.

If you're going to troll, at least put some effort into it.

Thanks

Andersen has let that one in a number of times this season. I'm not hearing much about Gibson these days, perhaps that's a recovery? 🤷🏻‍♂️

The PP was definitely not on fire, the Flames also did a really good job on the kill.

There were definitely a lot of bounces in front of the net where the Leafs just couldn't get a break too. Rielly hits 2 posts... deflections going through the crease and out behind Rittich, Calgary doing a good job of tying Leafs up in front of the net.

Just one of those games where you felt like if the Leafs scored even a single goal before the 3rd, coulda gone different.

A few years ago, it was my daughter's turn to go in net (in house league, everyone takes a turn). The game was at 6 am or 7 am.

So of course we are a little late. We get her dressed and at the doors to the ice 5 seconds after the puck drops. So the coaches and I are banging on the glass, telling the kids to get a whistle so we can get the goalie in.

Play goes on for about 3 minutes, with our team finally scoring a goal.

Our team ends up winning the game - by one goal.

To this day, I kid her that her team was better without her in net than with her in it.

She doesn't disagree.

Ha. Many moons ago when my son was 6 or 7, he had the same turn playing net for the first time. I took him to a nearby rink before hand to give him a sense of playing with the equipment and getting up and down - he was good at up/down - so much so, that he almost played the Andersen stomach slide all game long. Aside from a couple of moments where he was standing inside his net, backwards, popping his head up and down against he mesh ("What are you doing? Turn around!" as a puck was iced and narrowly missed the post - and he didn't even notice!), his style worked exceptionally well against the other young kids and the team was ecstatic which how well he played. The next time it was his turn I took him to practice again and he didn't want to because he was "A good goalie already". He was completely shelled and there ended my dreams of having a child in the NHL.

anyone else feel like the leafs were trying to not have Matthews shoot on the pp? Especially on the 5 on 3, it's like they decided to try something new this game

I thought it was Calgary doing a good job of not letting him. JMO

Trying not to do an April Reimer every game - Jesus. Started smoking at the start of each season.

Kid decided he wanted to play hockey and wanted to be a goalie. We rented pads an enrolled him in a 3-on-3 league on small ice. Wife took him to first practice and to get someone to show how to put on pads. First game, game first slow shot at him. He swung at puck, whiffed and it and it dribbled in. They scored 23.

Didn’t quit, still plays (never at a very high level) and told me yesterday how frustrated he is not playing.

If he stuck with it after giving up 23 he loves it and will be a goalie for life.

Goaltenders Union card issued.

Membership needed a boost anyway since Corey Hirsch decided to be a knob and turn his back on the brotherhood, and most recently Ken Dryden with his stupid article in the Athletic.

The fact the stats for the 2 goalies you are talking about are so eerily similar & is perhaps why your not hearing about Gibson much these days.

Gibson

Haha, my kid played nets once in IP. It was a tim’s fun day and a kid came from out of town ( 5-6 year olds ) he head faked and went around kids both sides and bar down about 27 times in a 10 minute game. My kid threw the gear off in the room and said he’s never playing nets again 🤣

The kid that scored all the goals went on to AAA a couple years later ( ahead of his age group ). Helped that his dad was 6’6” and his mom was almost as tall. I’ve heard some stories of the mom going into the room when he was like 10 and ripping into him for lack of effort 🤣🤣

I find It’s a lot of luck, they all seem to play the same...if a shooter comes in and rips it bar down / 5 hole - low blocker it’s usually a good chance it goes in. Last night we had tons of chances, we hit the post or the goalie every time. Nothing just over the pad or bar and in. Not that I want a goalie debate, I just think we are hard on our own goalie regardless of who it is or how the goal went in. We score a bunch and our guys are superstars, the other team scores, it’s our goalie that bites. 😞

Some decent names in there if you can get them for a decent price I guess but I wouldn't want a guy I'd be worried about easily being injured either due to age or history of injury. Assuming the plan would be to go to more of a tandem (at least to start) the pickings aren't great but there are some names that might work?

Imagine the chaos if they brought back Optimus Reims or Johnny Burns?

A good list to choose from, I wonder how tight Andersen and Matthews are and if that will come into play.

800K contract.....maybe if you get rid of (trade) Travis "Banana Hammock Dermott?

Not that it's the best stat but he's a -3 in 14 games this year, assume he's getting little to no PP time and likely little to no PK time.

He has 12 minutes in penalties but 2 of them are 5 min penalties so I assume for scrapping.

I'd take him over Martin Marincin.

That goal smelled worse than a post by Spatso, but no excuses here. Leafs played substandard as a team. Not generating anything resembling an strong effort or even a scoring chance during a long 2 man advantage was frustrating.

Just some odd decisions all game.. That 5 on 3 PP, why did Rielly shoot it a mile wide? Why not just feed the puck to Matthews?
