Even though he'll always be a Ranger, it's good to see HL back on the ice.

Alright then, I absolutely agree with filling the hole in the top 4 D. Let me ask this way...Are you sure Ekholm is the right fit there? Are you thinking he would be slotted—right side with either Provy or Sanheim? Is the one extra year on his contract enough to fill the gap between York or Zamula coming in?

The odd thing about the 3 guys you mentioned is that depthwise Lindblom is the easiest to replace, but the one that would hurt the most to lose (attachment speaking).

You can never be 100% sure that any player you get is the right player, but Ekholm to me checks a lot of boxes. He is a solid defenseman that is in his prime, has good size, plays with an edge, can play the PP and PK, plays important minutes and is a plus player. He would fit well with either Provorov on the top pair or Sanheim on the 2nd pair, but I am leaning towards Provorov to give him some stability and hopefully lift his game.

York I believe is at least 2 years away from the NHL, and Zamula is a project player that may or may not pan out. If I trade for Ekholm, I would want to sign him after next year, since then I have 4 really solid Dman moving forward for years to come.

Question, do we have to protect NAK in the ED? This is technically his 3rd season in the NHL, however his first year he played the minimum 9 games, so I wonder if this year is considered his 2nd year, and thus he does not have to be protected?

So if you had to put a percentage on it, what would it be for fit with Ekholm?

I ask because there is a moderate or higher risk to the move with loss of assets (in trade, expansion and cap space moves).

I like Ekholm, so I would put it at 90+% chance of success.

It's pro hockey, not necessarily just the NHL. Either way, I would not protect him.

I don’t know if you are right. However, to your credit, that’s where I think it has to be to swing for the fence with Ekholm. So I understand your support of the idea now.

I do think you are maybe underestimating the floor/ceiling on Patrick, Lindblom and Frost though.

Ok, last me ask you this. Right now compare Farabee in his 2nd year to Patrick in his second year 2018-2019. You can only choose one, which one do you choose and why?

Ekholm is signed through next year, its not like he would be a rental. Most players that come to the Flyers want to stay, that is one of the most consistent things we can say about the Flyers organization, that they are recognized for treating their players well. I do not think the Flyers will ever be firing on all cylinders unless they fix their defense. I guarantee you if the Flyers get Ekholm, their PK will improve right away because they have a more physical slot area presence which they currently lack.
- jd250

With losing a young forward and other assets I would want Ekholm longer. I do like the fact that Ekholm has size and an edge to his game, I didn't know that till recently. Firing on all cylinders would be similar to last season just before Covid, at their best and Ekholm is that upgrade

Coots for sure! Man I thought he was going to be a bust and I butchered Holmgren for passing on Dougie Hamilton. I was wrong on this one for sure. Joe Thornton was the 1st overall pick in 1997, and by his 3rd year you knew you had something special, though the Bruins traded him because he wasn't a thug like the rest of them. Knuble bounced around until he ended up on a line with Joe Thornton in Boston, and then played with Roenick for the Flyers, so in some cases who you play with matters a lot. Patrick Marleau showed something within the first 3 years of his career. So its not 100% for sure, but most of the time you can tell pretty quickly with young NHL forwards.
- jd250

while it can go either way, some you can see sooner and some not but the players in the last 2 years deserve a real chance, just crazy times. TK also came up when the Flyers were not a good team, easy for Pasta on a real good Bruins team.

I surely don’t want to get ahead of myself, but there’s been times this year where I thought Farabee flashed some Giroux-like poise and play.I’m sure it didn’t help that he was playing the left wall on the PP like Giroux does, but I think Farabee is just scratching the surface with his skill. He had a very nifty move in the 3rd in Tahoe that made me think I haven’t seen a Flyer try something like that in a while.
- arichardson22

Hexy when he drafted him alluded to his deceptive release, we are seeing some of his skill really show, skill this team needs.

Nothing says we need to expose Patrick at all. Im sure teams could be interested in a Young C. Maybe he's even part of the Ekholm deal. At the end of the day with Frost as an option as 3C. Patrick can be made expendable. It will just suck to have him develop and not be on our team anymore

Farabee.

Right now the Flyers have Couturier, Hayes, Laughton, Bunnaman with Frost, Laczynski and O’Brien in the pipeline. (I might be forgetting someone) The center depth is solid for the next 5 years minimum. With Patrick, I see his floor as an okay 3C and his ceiling, according to what has actually been shown, as a good 2C. Originally, I would have said 1C ceiling at draft time and the guy still has a shot, it just remains to be seen.

Farabee because the Flyers have Konecny along with the aging vets and Lindblom right now. It’s possible that another prospect develops quickly, but Farabee is already contributing a lot to the team offense. I see him as a scoring top 6 winger now and going forward.
