I think he would be a really good add also but I think expansion makes it tough. It'll add to the cost of acquiring him when the Flyers lose a player they don't want to or have to compensate Seattle to keep a player they want. If you don't think it would elevate the team and give them a legit chance to win the Cup, they you shouldn't make it. Add a player for a cheaper cost as a rental if you can. The question is what does Fletcher think and is he mandated by management to do something. - MJL
And to make matters worse it’s such a short runway here that by the time we know if this team is worth adding a big piece to take a shot it might be too late. As of now I would say we should not make the move, strictly due to Seattle, this team has not played well enough to warrant it and if we lose a bigger piece in expansion it would be foolish. |

All very good points. I personally don’t see them as a contender right now, but the major piece missing is a top 2 dman. If this is your guy and you can keep him without losing a lot in trade or expansion, go for it. It’s hard to get a top dman in ufa so you’ll have to be aggressive to address this problem.

A top 4 of provy ekholm - Sanheim Meyers makes us a damn good team. I would not be mad if they made a trade, warranted they didn’t give up too much |

So what’s the point of putting Friedman on wing over Kase? V’s just looking for some big bodies up front? Kase isn’t tall, but he looks to be pretty solid. Doesn’t seem to shy away from contact. I guess he’ll only see a couple of minutes anyway. This stacking up to be a whatever game in a whatever year. |

Something not discussed yet. This is the first year in a while we have carried 50 contracts. That flexibility may help with a waiver claim. Not that they are anything special. Who could’ve seen all the injuries that impacted our depth players though. Hindsight I know. |

Wonder what it takes? Frost and a first? They’ll want a lot, so maybe it’ll be more. |

True. I don’t know why I always think of Friedman as a big guy? Every time I see him play I’m surprised by how short he is. I guess it’s a pretty inconsequential move anyway. |

Carchidi just tweeted that the Flyers are not having a morning skate. The first time they’ll step on the game-ice will be for warmups. |

The ice probably can’t handle it tbh. Should be interesting. Quite a lot stacked against them here. Hope they respond and get points. |

I didn’t stay up to watch the end of the game last night (this morning?). Was the ice still bad? |

This was my original thought of how expensive he is.
Would you do that? Shouldn't we include a d-man too?
I would try to include someone be other than Frost, tbh but he costs what he costs if he can be a Niskanen+ type guy. |

I didn’t either, so no idea. It was probably fine by 9pm local. What I think though is they probably want to keep the ice covered all day so the sun doesn’t turn it into slush, and that’s why they aren’t practicing. I could def be wrong however. |

I like frost and want to keep him. If I’m Nashville and know what a top d is worth in the league the conversation starts there. Have to give to get. As much as I like frost I’d rather part with him than York. O’Brien sure..etc. Farabee is a non starter for me.

I wonder where Farabee would rank in a re-draft in 2018.
EDIT: just looked at 2 re-drafts and Farabee was at 10th from 14th in both. |

Money and a Dman has to go the other way imo as part of the deal. |

Money has to go back. Guessing ghost or Gus. Don’t think I would throw frost in though.
It’s what they want. Gus comes off the books and could just be a fill in for them or a part of another sell trade. They have the space for ghost and is signed for two more years. Do they see him fitting in? And I feel either they could argue to drive up the price. If higher end prospects are considered I wait til after the expansion draft and look for provie s partner. |

If anyone is wondering, this did not come out of Thin air.
It was Ek's headline yesterday that the Flyers had the inside track on Ekholm. |

Of course I hope the Flyers can somehow manage to get points out of tonight's game, but what I hope even more is Morin plants Marchand so hard that Marchand ends up as a permanent fixture of the 18th green! |

There was an article by LeBrun that had Boston,Jets, Caps, and Flyers as serious traders for Ekhlom. He’s a good fit with a workable salary but the expansion draft really complicates things. |

For once something Ek reports actually makes sense, at least to me. The Predators are having a rough year so far, and have no cap space. They need to rebuild, maybe not a full tear it all down rebuild, but a rebuild on the fly. Ekholm is one of their best trade assets presently in that he a solid defenseman with good size and a very reasonable contract. The Flyers should have the ability to give Nashville what they want, i.e. picks and prospects. If I was Fletcher, this is a trade worthy of giving up prospects and picks for! With Ekholm, this would give the Flyers that top D-pair they desperately need to become true contenders.

Thanks for this!
it will be a fascinating trade deadline. I cannot wait to see where our management thinks we stand in the pecking order of the East. |

Fingers crossed that Fletcher looks like a god coming out of this deadline!
I like our team enough to think we can turn it on at the playoffs any year.
You can't ask for much more? But we still need to win ONCE to be worth it.
