Name one person who has said that Nylander was a "defensive stalwart" and the best competitor.

People have been fans of Nylander. Hell, I still think he can be a good asset for this team into the future. But the idea that people have spoken fondly of his defensive play is asinine.

- Leafs43

Lol, f'real?

Gonna just act like none of these things were said huh?

The burden isnt on me to go dig this up.

That’s why he got the $11M contract.

So here’s my hot take:

I want Nylander to play better. (We can talk about JT later)

A lot of great words were spoken about Nylander.

He's on a great contract, good goal scorer, possession stats, yada yada.

I do not recall anyone claiming he was a defensive stalwart, or even giving accolades defensively.

I want Nylander and JT to play better. I don't think it is a coincidence they are both struggling at the same time.

Nylander isn't (frank)ing trying. Tavares is trying but has (hopefully temporarily) lost his ability to puck handle/pass.

1st review was to confirm if the puck crossed the line. It did. Hence ‘good goal’.

2nd review was the goalie interference challenge. It was. Hence ‘not a good goal’.

That’s how it’s different. Not hard to understand

I agree with Keefe. He didn’t show up defensively when the team was up. I don’t believe he’s not trying offensively. He’s getting to the point where the lack of results don’t make any difference

I want to go back in time and trade Nylander as soon as held out;

Even moving him at a discount given his contract situation could have netted a nice asset, and it probably would have saved some $ on the Marner and Matthews contracts as it would have shown that Dubas wasn’t (frank)ing around.

Nylander is soft, takes a lot of nights off, and disappears as soon as the real estate on the ice is harder to come by. He has unbelievable talent but imo is a player the leafs should move on from if they can get a decent return.

Fun fact: Matthews tied the record last night by scoring the first goal in four consecutive games.

Can’t wait to play the stone cold Calgary Flames Monday.

If they can find a comparable offensive talent at the same price (without the time machine) I say do it. It’s fun watching our one line dominate but at some point, Bergeron-Marchand-Pasta have to be dealt with

We go through this like 3-4 times a year.

Nylander struggles offensively - people want to trade him, he sucks.

Nylander scores 7 goals in 10 games - People love him again and say he is on a great contract.

He can be a frustrating player to watch. But he is a wild card that could be a huge contributor if he gets hot in the playoffs.

He’s probably never going to score again and will turn the puck over ever time it’s on his stick and (frank) JT’s wife and Mitch’s mom

Yeah I’d settle for someone with less offensive upside but better defensively/generally harder to play against.

Why do the Leafs need another offensive player?

Why not a 20/30 guy who's very reliable defensively, and who plays with some jam?

It's the 7mil contract that will turn teams off.

If we go through this every year, then shouldn't at some point people start to realize that he's not a reliable player? My knock on him wasnt his offensive abilities, its his lack of defensive awareness, and his lack of compete. It doesnt matter if he goes on a 7 game scoring streak at this point, because we know he'll cool off and cost us games at some point.

I’ll love him if he scores 7 goals in 10 playoff games.

But he won’t, because he’s softer than 3 ply and disappears when challenged for space, which is what playoff hockey is all about.

You realize we go through very similar conversations regarding Freddy every year as well? Your comment implies that having those conversations constantly should make you realize that Freddy isn't reliable?

Nylander isn't a complete player. He is one dimensional and frustrating at times.

But Matthews/Marner will cool down eventually. We will need secondary scoring and Nylander can be a big part of that.

Not Leaf related but I find this not great.

SAN ANTONIO — As millions of Texans shivered in dark, cold homes over the past week while a winter storm devastated the state’s power grid and froze natural gas production, those who could still summon lights with the flick of a switch felt lucky.

Now, many of them are paying a severe price for it.

“My savings is gone,” said Scott Willoughby, a 63-year-old Army veteran who lives on Social Security payments in a Dallas suburb. He said he had nearly emptied his savings account so that he would be able to pay the $16,752 electric bill charged to his credit card — 70 times what he usually pays for all of his utilities combined. “There’s nothing I can do about it, but it’s broken me.”

Mr. Willoughby is among scores of Texans who have reported skyrocketing electric bills as the price of keeping lights on and refrigerators humming shot upward. For customers whose electricity prices are not fixed and are instead tied to the fluctuating wholesale price, the spikes have been astronomical.

I know you're struggling with it like so many are..

Cant grapple with the fact that AA was right the whole time. Just like I was right about Marner and Freddy. And im right about Rielly.

Its a somber day for so many, much crow is being eaten.
