Just damn glad it was Tanev and not Conner Sheary doing that board work. Tanev wins the first battle. Guentz wins the second and gives it to a wide open Sid for the dish to a wide open Letang. Beautiful.

100% what Sid needs more of from his line mates. When he has time he’s still as dangerous as ever. He’s just not as good as he was at creating it himself.

It's amazing how much they've clusterfvcked McDavid's career to this point

McDavid
Hall
Eberle
Draisatl
Nugent-Hopkins
Klefbom

As a starting point, all entering their prime, and they couldn't build anything out of it

It really puts the success of the Penguins into perspective. Even with the top player in the game, success doesnt always happen.

Seems like we missed our chance last year to buy low on Puljujärvi.

McKinnon is such a special player. Still blows my mind two elite NHL superstars came out of the same small town in such as short time.

Hell of a game tonight. Teams dont win games like that unless they got some good character, talent, and resolve. Penguins played ugly as hell most of the night and still found a way to win without giving Islanders a point.

Dont look now, but now a 4 way tie for 2nd place in the division (Philly holds advantage with 2 less games played).

Matheson is looking the part. Even if he gives us that high offensive upside, we can tolerate the low defensive awareness at times. He is playing better and more confident.

I have no idea what Zucker's problem has been. He looks so underwhelming here.

Jarry is playing like the goalie we know he is capable of. If he can return to the level he was at last year, the Penguins became a much bigger contender in the division.

Yeah it’s true. Edmonton won a game last week I think, the score was 3-2, and it was the first game since 2017 that Edmonton won without mcdavid or draisaitl registering a point... I hope Edmonton never wins a cup

I was against taking Guentz away from Sid a few games ago, but agreed, Zucker and Geno are pure trash together. Painful to watch.
- madmike71

Agree. I always dismissed that Malkin and Guentzel should play together because of that stretch last year because Guentzel has had even more success with Crosby. But Malkin and Zucker aren't even reading from the same book.

Just a thought... Would Kap be stapled to the bench already if JR was still GM? I bet not.

Didn't stop Sully from not playing Reaves.

Obviously McDavid is extremely talented. I do think however that he gets a free pass on some things. He is way more Ovie than Crosby. He doesn't commit much on the D side or go down low often.

Less so this year but in previous years I always felt like Edmonton sacrificed the teams ability to win by stacking Drai and McDavid on a line together. Imagine if Crosby and Malkin were out there together on a regular basis in their early years...

Edmonton isn't going to win a cup. McDavid took up too much of their cap space in a city where you have to overpay to get guys to play.

Zucker and Malkin are really not getting along out there. Zucker was damn good with Crosby, so it's not like he can't play, think it is just the way Malkin plays that is throwing him off.

Sid and Jake are the ones winning them games, so there is no way I would break them up. Problem is that I don't see who on this roster gets him going... he has had some combination or Rust, Kap and Zuck all year... I don't think Tanev or ZAR bring anything different than those first 3.

If Laine gets himself in the doghouse again, I'd offer them Zucker a First and a prospect. But I think the issue is as much Malkin as it is Zucker.

I like Matthews all around game better than McDavids right now. He's making a lot of my friends and fam happy. It's exciting for them like Sid was for us in his early 20's.

I pass on Laine. He is just and offensive threat he doesn't put much effort when in the defensive zone. Plus I don't see that package getting it done. I think everyone is correct. They need to switch Guentzel and Zucker.

I would as well. When McCann gets back throw him at center. Zucker-Mccann-Kapenen would be a very solid 3rd line.

I’m pretty sure the 2nd half of the 3rd Letang and Petts were together. Unless I just happen to keep noticing them as a line change was happening.

Just read that POJ didn't play the last 9 minutes, so you're probably right. Wonder what happened there.

Yeah it’s one thing to sign a big deal based on the cap steadily going up but with this whole flat cap now they could be screwed. Thank god Crosby was born in august not October.. although june could have been better haha. Edmonton’s cap friendly is hilarious. 4 multimillion dollar forwards (one of whom is Neal and nug who is ufa this year) then no one above 2mil I think for the rest of the forwards lol

Hopefully not injured. Sully did bench Kap as well so maybe he sat POJ too.

I’m glad to see sully coaching. Putting tanev on the first line. Benching Kap for the 3rd and Poj for the second half of the 3rd. Hopefully Kap is back on the first line and flying out there next game. Poj I think should go back to the 3rd pair. He was doing good but has come back to earth and is a little over his head on the top pair, especially playing with a wild Letang. Let him ease into the season a bit now that his initial adrenaline wore off.

Not only first pairing but with Letang. Tanger does thins that make no sense some times. Somehow Dumo has learned to anticipate these things. A lot to ask of a kid in his first year

Yea I'm ok with that too. I actually think that could be better because it will allow POJ to do a little more offensively.

I think POJ is struggling with the increased role/minutes. Not unexpected. It wouldn't surprise me at all if they sat him in the remaining minutes of a tight game.
