Id rather have Phil in his prime.

My point is that Hall is overrated, much like Phil was in Toronto.

- Santo_44

I'd still take Hall over Kessel. He may not have deserved the Hart, but he deserved to be in the conversation. Hall at his best his better than Kessel at his best. Hall has played on a poor Edmonton team, a poor New Jersey team, and a poor Arizona team. This year it was his own idiotic choice that led him to be on a poor Buffalo team, but prior to this season he hasn't had much choice in the lack of support he's had around him.

Imagine they have Hall and Skinner tied up long term to 18 M
- Santo_44

You just knew that Skinner deal was going to bite them in the ass. When I ventured in their blog way back when, many of those Sabres fans didn’t like or want that deal to happen.

It wasn’t absurd to think that he could put up some points with Eichel

Playing on poopty teams may be his way of trying to look better than he is. Phil was money in the playoffs - he wanted to win. Hall wants a paycheque.

In my hockey pool this year, I drew unlucky 7th. By the time I picked McDavid, MacKinnon, Matthews, Marner, Draisaitl and Panarin had been selected. I had a plethora of options at my disposal - and went with Eichel, because I thought Hall would prop him up with a bunch of points. I also thought Pittsburgh, Washington, Jersey and the Rangers would have higher scoring games.

I'm still in 2nd because most of my other picks are panning out (despite making a total and complete brain fart on selecting Seguin in the 9th round).

But the point is: (frank)ing Eichel. That's the point.

There's a nasty article in the Athletic today - the author is a clever weasel in that he doesn't say Eichel wants out or that the Sabres will trade him - he just says that in the next two years, you are going to be hearing a lot about Eichel wanting out or that the Sabres should trade him.

I expect Ek to make some stuff up about it shortly.

I think that's a pretty simplistic view of Hall. He has had exactly one kick at the free agent can, and signed a 1 year deal with Buffalo - betting on himself. I'm sure whatever they sold him in Buffalo worked as well. He wouldn't be the first guy to believe to what Ralph Krueger is selling (he's such a nice guy! He's such a good coach! Blah, blah, blah - the guy is a career 53-77 as a coach).

When he signed his 6x6 deal in Edmonton it was coordinated with Eberle, who had the same deal. It made him a top 50 paid player in the league. I'm not really sure he was chasing only the money.

To me Hall might be about the pay cheque, but I don't see any firm evidence of it based on his history.

That makes sense. If so...coward.
I liked venturing in to the Sabres blog once in a blue moon. Seemed like a good bunch, some funny guys too.
RippedTool was never in there, and I refuse to consider him one of their kind, unless they back him up.

- Woderwick

yeah, same. They have a couple idiots, like we do, but mostly good guys. Actually, most of the other fanbases here aren't bad.

Someone needs to ask Blackhawk fans if they still know more than everyone else now that their team isn't a contender.

exactly the same... I picked 7th and took Eichel. Late in the pool I took Dahlin.

My subtle dislike for him goes back to the World Juniors, where I thought he was a selfish player. Then on to the Oilers, where he wouldn’t change his style of play for the betterment of the team - I’ll go ahead and say he was selfish again.
Anyway, not the end of the world, but he gets a lukewarm, meh from me.

Like I mentioned a couple days ago, Eichel is a big market guy... this deal wasn’t going to end well.

I got the same impression that he was a selfish player from the Juniors and his time in Edmonton, as well. But he really was the puck carrier, and I think that's bound to create that type of impression. That said . . . he was traded for Adam Larsson straight up. I don't like Peter Chiarelli at all, but that deal has "getting rid of Taylor Hall" written all over it. He and his entire management team couldn't possibly have mis-evaluated Larsson that poorly.

When I compare him with Phil - I loved Phil. He had game breaking ability. He didn't necessarily make others around him better, and he sure didn't know who the team's goalie was - but he could change a game on a dime. What I like about Hall's game is that there is pretty much non-stop effort, even if a lot of is misdirected. I used to be certain he was in for a career ending injury the way he would tear towards the boards at top speed leading with his face, or falling skates first into them.

It was a crazy decision. Being on bad teams brings down your stats unless you are super elite.

Guys like Boyd, Petan ect would probably suck in Buffalo but they are treading above water here.
