A defenseman that isn’t very good defensively.

He’s only got over 50 points one year.

- bryant

Its all about points.
He'll get a minimum of 6.5

How many goals would Eichel get if Marner was setting him up?

He is really good..... just not Matthews

- mr.sir

Marner increases everyones goal totals

I think Krug would be absolute low bar and maybe Carlsson/OEL on the high end.

Although the PA and Agents are probably going to be predicting Cap increases beyond 22'.

- The Law

I think he probably comes in around $7.5m. It probably would have been more if the cap hadn't flattened for a couple of years. You're probably right in range with your assessment. I see him that Chabot / Carlson range as well. They're both at $8m (I'm trying to leave OEL out because I don't know how I feel about him; we all liked him and he seems to have just fallen off drastically, but is that just the weight of playing on the Coyotes? -- but really when he signed his contract, he was probably right there, and he's at $8.25m).

They're not the same age. Krug is 3 years older, and he's already playing in his prime years.

Take ages 23 -25 for both players:

Rielly played in 205 games with 29 goals and 122 assists;
Krug played in 240 games with 24 goals and 110 assists;

If you were to level that out to an average 82 game season:

Rielly is at 12 goals and 49 assists;
Krug is at 8 goals and 38 assists.

Krug is a very good player, and I don't want to take anything away from him, but you're maybe being too objective when evaluating Rielly.

- Monkeypunk

another variable - Krug signed in the heat of Covid and a unpredictable flat cap.

Rielly will come due in the summer of 22' with some greater financial optimism.

I'd say 8 x 7.5 is probably his ballpark extension if he puts up another good year.

That said ....I like Rielly but I'd be nervous giving it to him.

Andersen third among leaf goalies in SV% (.905), Hutchinson second (.919)

🤣

- joel878

Are you actually suggesting Hutch is a better goalie than Andersen?

Sign him 7mil 8 years and be damned if you do, damned if you don't. Unless Sandin transforms instantaneously, they can't replace him internally or externally.

Super quiet over in the Senaturds blog comments minus a convo about trading Toaster Strudle for Laf that Spatso says no to......

He threw out this gem when talking about toaster Strudle though:

Last night he scored a goal and the commentator merely said wow!

I just didn't have the heart to tell him the WOW was all about the fact nobody could believe the shot wasn't stopped as 99% of the time an NHL goalie stops that and it was not about some incredible skill on display. I was then going to take a jab and say if that was what he was looking for to go back and look at the goal young Mitchell scored last night against his team but its' Friday and I decided to not be mean.

how many of those are secondary assists?

You could say that for a lot of players, and while I agree, its still a lot of points for a dman.

Probably right ....unless Dougie Hamilton goes to market and digs up his ol' jammies.

If DH's agent says "hey KD, my guy is keen to join up ..8 x 8 would do it"

Does KD move MR and lock into Dougie?

If DH isn't moving or wants too much then ya, I think it's Ride with Rielly.

Quite the read on Donald Brashear in the Athletic today, would recommend.

30 beers a day on top of the drugs. Hard to believe that dude is still alive, quite the ride the poor guy has had.

Had to check because with some the Fred hate is next level and the constant use of stats to proclaim how terrible he is was a constant until his #'s crept up above .900 for a SV%.

Then suddenly #'s didn't matter it was because of other, new and exciting reasons like not "winning a series deciding game" or "rebound control", "being on his chest too much" or whatever the soup de jour is.

I thought you were one of the folks who was in that boat.

Spatso also thinks Zaitsev would be a good pickup for Seattle in the expansion draft

It's why all roads lead back to Nylander. You can't trade Tavares. You'd never trade Matthews. Marner makes $10.9m and Nylander makes $6.9m, so the cap flexibility you get from moving Marner is appealing (you'd have $15.9 to work with, so you COULD sign both Hamilton and Rielly in that theoretical situation), but I think you get a lot more from Marner than you do from Willy. When Willy is at his best, he's a great player to have. He's a great skater, has a good shot, can be a game breaker and so on. When Marner is at his best, he's better. Over the past 3 years (ignoring the half year where Willy was here in name only), I would say that Marner is still more frequently at his best than Willy is.

So if you have to move a forward for cap space, all roads lead back to Nylander.

8 for DH and an additional 2+ for MR ....it'd have to be Matthews or Marner. No thank you.

Can they move a big contract on the blue line instead?

Muzzin and Brodie both have NMC/NTC. Holl and the others don't add enough.

Sorry Garns ....
