Janko gotta go, he's the weakest link, him or Laff. I like Sceviour better than Laff. I like ERod better than Janko, Laff, Sceviour and O'Connor - MattStrat
I'm not that in love with Rodrigues. I feel like he's a tweener and is lucky to have a spot in the NHL. |

I think what Jags meant to say is that she is a student of Prof. Rak. LOL |

If he never played another game for the Pens I wouldn't lose a wink of sleep. I just think he brings a bit more than the four I mentioned, even if only marginally haha

I wonder if they are also waiting on Riikola to get healthy as well. A healthy Pens team could mean a few options to trade.
Dumo resumed skating, Riikola, McCann, and Rodriguez.
I think they will try a McCann- Jankowski- Rodriguez line. If that doesn't work I think trades will happen.
They will also probably look at LHD with Riikola and Dumolin returning. We could probably move a Defenseman in a deal. - 123Kid
I'd probably put McCann back at C. Him and Rodrigues should be an upgrade.
Might have to do a trade soon. Looking at a roster crunch if everyone is actually healthy. Would force POJ back to taxi squad. And I think they still need to waive someone to get to 23 unless there are new rules with the taxi squad.
EDIT- yep last night's game put Lafferty over the waiver exempt threshold giving them 24 players who beed waivers plus POJ. |

How's that tasting now B!tcH!? - Barnaby36
I'm not eating crow just yet on Matheson. I'm feeling very good about the direction he's heading and I have a little more than cautious optimism. These few games, at least for me, will give him the benefit of the doubt.

Yeah I'm cautiously optimistic now, wasn't at all two weeks ago. He's had 3 or 4 pretty good showings in a row now.

Tough to tell how much of it is chemistry with the specific guys he’s playing with and how much of it is him just actually flourishing away from some pretty bad Florida teams. Gudbranson had a very good initial stint here with Petterson in the bottom pairing and then went right back to being poopty Gudbranson the following year when Pettersson was called on for a bigger role on the second pairing. If this is just lightning in a bottle with Marino we should inflate the poop out of his value and trade him. Maybe give him a few games look with Ceci (who’s also been good in his own right) for a few games to see if he can keep it going with a different partner. |

I think you or someone else pointed this out, but aside from the chemistry, he made good decisions and that has nothing to do with anyone but himself. Maybe the coaching staff is helping him to become more aware? I don't know. That's the part I'm focused on more than the offense. We all knew that was a strong point, but was it enough to off-set the horrible play in his own and turnovers he was known for was what most of us were concerned about.
As of right now, aside from his poopty start, he's making good decisions and if he doesn't he's working his ass off to get back and prevent his mistake from turning into something bad.

He made some really stellar standout plays without the puck last night. Broke up a few HDSC's to my eyes.

He did actually. Your eyes didn't lie. He did it the game before as well.
I'm ok with offensive dmen turning the puck over. That's going to happen. It's the nature of the style/position. Obviously it's troublesome if it's an alarming degree and while you don't necessarily expect someone like him to be positionally strong, you want them to at least be average positionally.
I'm happy at what I see so far, but can he keep it going with minimal lapses?

Well playing his off-side or playing with JJ didn't work out. Gudbranson had a pretty decent year in Anaheim. Been a struggle in Ottawa but that's a dumpster fire right now.
Bringing this up more because I wouldn't mind bringing him back on a cheap deal next year.
But to your main point, agree, small sample. Better for a good small sample than bad, but Matheson needs to sustain this play. |

I think trades will happen. I don't think POJ will see the taxi squad. I think with Hextall's history of promoting young players, I think they will find a spot for him. I do wonder if Lafferty gets moved in a deal. I also wonder if Riikola gets a shot on the bottom pairing at some point to save cap space (potentially an off-season deal). |

He would be my ideal RHD on the 3rd pairing. He is big and brings something different to this team. |

Breaking up plays is also supposed to be one of his strong points even when he has struggled. It's all about decision making, he improves that, MM becomes a pretty good defenseman. Usually a tough thing to bet on improving, but maybe he pulls it off. |

I bet they still like him. An Oleksiak type of situation all over again.
In my book PO Joseph looks more promissing than Pettersson moving forward. |

What would it take to get RNH out of EDM? Peterson? Dumo? No way he resigns in EDM. |

We'd have to trade out enough cap to be able to afford to resign him, and he'll probably want 7-8 Million
Dumo and McCann at least. I'd offer Letang straight up

(frank) that. I hate edmonton. I will not allow Letang to be on that team. |
