It still sounds really strange listening to Tirico call a game. Very familiar voice in a very unusual context.

He is OK, it's Eddy O. and his Hawks bias that is sickening....NBCSN could have had Pee-air or Bouch and it would have been better. They shouldn't be using the Hawks color guy.

Yeah I agree. Tirico is fine. Olczyk always drives me nuts.

Also, holy hell, apparently Mantha is the worst, most disappointing player ever because it was all the broadcast team could talk about for like the last ten minutes.

Finally put Mantha with Larkin and Zadina, and put Brome with Ryan and Fabbri. Both shifts by both lines had a good scoring chance, keep it together this way the rest of the game and maybe some chemistry can finally happen. Brome on the top line isn't working, that's apparent considering how many games he's had a chance in and still has zero points. Maybe he will fare better with Ryan and Fabbri.

First period summary is up. The three zones on the ice for Detroit are like buttons on a sports coat. Always, sometimes, never. Always get to the Ozone, sometimes good play in the neutral zone, never getting the puck in the defensive zone.

First period - not nearly as good a period for Detroit as the last game. Even though Chicago struck twice in the first on Monday, Detroit’s play on the ice seemed more steady, better controlled. Chicago, on the attack, is so far beyond what Detroit is able to cover at this point. In their own zone, the Wings are puck chasing and puck watching. Bernier did a yeoman’s task to keep this tied. Detroit started to have some better rhythm toward the end, with a really nice opportunity for Fabbri that was air-mailed over the net. In essence, the zones on the ice right now for Detroit are like the three buttons on a sport coat. Always, sometimes, never (top, middle, bottom). Always - Detroit is finding ways to move the puck in the O zone. Sometimes - Detroit is jamming up the neutral zone and shutting down momentum for Chicago. Never - Detroit cannot get the puck in their own zone right now. Avoid it at all costs. Chicago took over in the second on Monday, about halfway through. We’ll see how it goes tonight.

Defense doing a great job keeping Chicago out of the slot.

Has Hronek taken a shot from closer than 60 feet out all season long?

Zadina firing the one timer from too far out too.

That's kinda the whole Red Wings powerplay in a nutshell. It's far too easy for the PK to keep them on the perimeter and block passing lanes through the slot.

They have had some good looks, but they lose assignments. I thought Blash switched to Man to man coverage. There’s still some confusion, especially the forwards covering the points. Better than the beginning of the season for sure

It would be nice for them to just accept the skill isn’t there and commit to a dump and retrieve PP and just overload one side and get pucks on net.

It feels like if they can’t win a faceoff and spread out quickly, the whole thing just falls apart. Entries, drop passes, passes at the point, man. Tough to watch

The entries are terrible but even when they get set up with possession they rarely generate anything all that dangerous. The puck just cycles back and forth between the points and half boards until somebody gets bored and rips one from downtown. Everyone off the puck just stands around waiting for a point shot and generally the only passing lane available is the "safe" outlet.

It's partly lack of talent but I think bad coaching and strategy is a far more relevant factor.

It's especially frustrating because Detroit is such a conservative, low-event team at even strength. If your game strategy is to lock it down at evens you should be playing extra aggressively on the PP when you have a numerical advantage to make up for the talent deficit. I'd honestly play five forwards over whatever the heck it is they think they're doing with the current setup.

Second period thoughts - Detroit’s power play looks like the “before” guy in a Frank Thomas and Doug Flutie NuGenix commercial....

Second Period - I’m running out of things to say about Detroit’s power play. The theatrics of it all could only be topped if Doug Flutie and Frank Thomas skated out with a bottle of NuGenix. “You’ll get stronger, better workouts with more success, and the fans will love it too”. Make GNC the new helmet sponsor. Bernier has been very good. Kudos to Kurashev for turning a 1 on 3 into a highlight shootout goal. Play on dear friends.

They’d be better off just playing it as a regular setup. It’s like they forget how to play. Yes, it’s time to beg Lidstrom to run the power play by FaceTime
