Fridge says Granlund is the winger he was talking about..as long as NSH stays bad which it looks to be the case

if they retain half his cap then I believe his deadline cap is around 1.7. Would be nice to get Jarnkrok or Haula as well...Then they can ditch Kerfoot after playoffs are over and roll with a cheaper 3c. Jarnkrok can play 3C but doesn't score as much.

Heard his name mentioned. Not familiar with him. What kind of game does he bring to the table?

Two or three times a year, we see this sort of third period meltdown, or full game power failure. Confidence is a 2-sided sword. When the Leafs are behind, it gets them back into games. When they are ahead, it makes them cocky. This team needs a guy like Shane Corson, Darcy Tucker, Doug Gilmour or Ed Belfour. The type of player that makes everybody uncomfortable if they aren't going all-out for 60 minutes.
Simmons may bring some of that, I am not sure that Thornton, Matthews, Marner, Nylander, Tavares or Andersen bring that. It seems to be far to easy to chaulk it up to a bad 20 minutes and move on. Problem is - It wasn't just last night vs. Ottawa, the 3rd period vs. Montreal on Saturday was very one-sided in favor of the Habs. This team needs a killer instinct and not just the calm careful guys who are willing to forget a bad effort rather than learn.

Good playmaker and good 5v5 play.

was a 65-70 point player for 2 straight seasons...had an off year in NSH last year and has started out decent this year.

Solid complementary piece in any top 6.

I also have 2 Granlund Jerseys somehow. I won a Wild one years ago and I was given a fake Finland Worlds jersey by a friend who was moving. So its bound to happen.

Character matters. Leadership matters.

What is it that Thornton, Tavares and Spezza have in common? They are all elite players, past their peek performance years. But, more important, in their prime they were never able to get their teams over the competitive hump. Great personal performances, but no championship rings, repeated big game and playoff failures.

It may appear that I am merely picking at the edges but I cannot help wonder if this Leaf team despite its outstanding skill level lacks a soul. Is there enough fire in the belly for the hand to hand combat of an extended playoff run? So far we have seen nothing that would give us confidence that this team has the character and leadership capable of meeting the challenge.

For several years now the Leafs have come out of the gates very strong and have been among the league leaders at the first quarter pole. Same this year. But they fade down the stretch and collapse in the playoffs. What is it about this team that is any different than the last few years? Where is the source of soul and character?

Theres 31 teams in the league. You have to find a way to be better than everyone else. Im not worried about any voodoo bullpoop with this team, Spezza and Thotnton are complimentary players, thats it. Personally i wouldnt have them on the team but whatever. Theres no magic formula for winning it all. Theres things you can do to improve your chances, but nothings guaranteed.

What i find most concerning about the team is that no one gets pissed off, including the coach. The skill is there, but the hunger isn't. I can honestly say that if i got paid 7mil+ a year i probably wouldn't be as hungry either. At this point the only players i wouldnt trade are Marner, Matthews, and Rielly. Those guys want it, and bring it every game.

Since when is Hyman not part of this team anymore??

There are quite a few others as well that bring it every game -- and in fact, I'm not sure that Matthews is a guy that should top that list.

Hyman
Rielly
Muzzin
Marner
Mikheyev

those are the 5 that top my list that bring it every game -- and in fact, Tavares should be on there as well.
