If you're going to suck, this is the year to suck. It's not like Buffalo (or most teams) are going to lose playoff ticket revenues.
Hall should provide a nice return at the trade deadline. |

I tried to come up with a clever Jeff Skinner comment but I'll just paste his Capfriendly page instead

With that salary - unlike Robidas, Sabres will not be looking for an island - more like a continent.

No playoffs for 10 years if they miss this year. Then they can blow it up and Leafs can trade them a 2nd for Dahlin. - winsix

No one is.. I think that is what their issue is... Hey, at least they didn't blow a 5-1 lead... amirite - PatC80
That would involve them needing to get their season output of goals in a single game, though. Highly unlikely.

It might be the worst year to suck Wedge. The draft is absolutely (frank)ed. The college and Euro's are playing, but everybody else is at a standstill. International tournaments are out of sync. Nobody knows poop about what's going on because scouts can't fly around, they need to be stuck in the bubbles being played. This wasn't supposed to be the best draft regardless of all the issues. Buffalo might just walk into another disaster if they aren't careful. |

In most circumstances I would agree. With the Sabres having drafted in the top 10 for eight straight years, including two 2nd overall and one 1st overall, hard to imagine they will finally figure out how to improve. That might make that nice return rather meaningless

some bad puck luck got Tavares....and willy
a few start to go in, the narrative changes
https://twitter.com/dragl...tatus/1362070621027528704 - senstroll
Yeah, but this isn't telling enough. It really isn't. You can _see_ Tavares' game is not where it should be. He's not competing nor winning even near half of his battles. His shot percentage is low because he isn't getting the same shots off that he was before from good scoring chances. In this case, I don't give a rat's ass what people call HD, MD or LD shots - we can _see_ where Tavares is getting his shots and how well they are coming off his stick. There's a reason his shooting percentage and PDO are low - hockey is a sport where you can influence your own luck, and he's not doing that right now.
My position is that Willy and JT have to change the narrative themselves, not hope for a lucky bounce that changes the narrative for them - because if they don't change the way they've been playing, the narrative will return to this story.

Their scouts not knowing anything might actually be beneficial to them, though. They might get lucky on a random kid, instead of picking someone they know about that'll flop again. |

You're right..Tavares and Nylander ae not creating their luck right now.. I don't know what it is, but game in and game out, they don't seem to be buzzing around the net.. Even Hyman has been driving to the net... Mikheyev, bless him, but at least he tries hard

Isn't there talk about changing the draft rules to disqualify teams from getting top five picks in back to back seasons?

It is very simple.
Tavares has to constantly think defense first because he's got Willie "I don't backcheck" Nylander on his line.
It's tough getting some offense if there's only 2 out of 3 players on the forward line that have to make sure no goals are scored against. |
