Galchenyuk has the second most point from the 2012 Draft.

The top 4 picks of that draft did not turn out at all. |

Not to piss off CC ...but somebody dropped the Granlund rumour.
Mussel will like this.
What happened to his game ....maybe a we can polish him up after a couple years playing with that declining Nashville team? |

right, which I guess makes him more appealing since he can be moved around for 30 days - senstroll
I'm beginning to think this was a Marlies deal, and we are all wasting time worrying about it.
I'm just looking at Cap Friendly, and it looks like we have far more defencemen than forwards on NHL contracts (only six forwards, and that includes Robertson and Galchenyuk).
We have seven defencemen.
Maybe this was simply getting rid of Warfovsky (or whatever the frank his name was) and adding a forward for the 2021 Marlies season. |

He never had same quality linemates as he will have with Toronto.
Tavares-Marner-Thornton-Matthews-Hyman on the same line is different than playing with some mediocre linemates.
It was the same for Johnsson (Tavares/Matthews/Marner) and for Nylander (Matthews/Tavares).
Leafs have what.. 40 games left? If Galchenyuk will play in all of those left, he might get 15+ goals, 15+ assists in those remaining games. it's a reasonable scenario for him to become a .75 ppg player in a top6 role with leafs.
he's obviously a better player than johnsson, vesey etc. -- and on a 1mln AAV contract that's a lot of value. - MaximusAurelius
He has played with good players for a significant portion of his career. He's played predominantly with Pacioretty and Gallagher for his last stint in Montreal and played with Cousins and Keller in Arizona, who are not terrible. On the Leafs the best you'd hope for his slotting in on the left-side alongside Tavares and Nylander. Is that _significantly_ better than Gallagher and Pacioretty?
If he can reacquire his peak performance in Montreal, he'll be an asset. I wouldn't gamble on it based on how poorly he's performed in Ottawa, Minnesota and Pittsburgh (where he played with Malkin). Teams are giving him opportunities. *IF* he wakes up and realizes that this probably his last kick at the NHL can before going to the KHL, then that would be mutually beneficial, but I'm not optimistic.

Yeah, my wild, no insider knowledge guess is that he told them he doesn't want to come back to North America next year to play for the Marlies, so at that point he's a dead asset to you. - Atomic Wedgie
Agreed so get rid of him, open up a contract spot - smart by Dubie. |

alright ...then the waiver clearance must have been of some value to the Leafs or else they would have grabbed him off waivers.
Maybe now they can stash him on the taxi squad without waivers (value)
Or by not using waivers they maintain their slot (not sure how that works).
There's obviously a reason ...we just haven't figured it out yet. - The Law
I think it's a die roll. He's a low risk flier. We haven't had good luck finding a second line LW to play with Tavares and Nylander. Mikheyev has speed and puck pursuit, but lacks the offensive instincts. Hyman hasn't had much of a chance, but Keefe wants him on a 3rd line. Robertson was hurt and may need to prove himself in some game situations first. Galchenyuk has a top-6 upside in theory, so you give him a shot. If he pans out, it's great. If he doesn't, then you have your options of moving him to the bottom-6, or waiving him, or trading him for someone else's never-was prospect. His cap influence is, I believe, $75k if he's in the minors or on the taxi squad.
Compared to the bottom 6 players (one of whom would be a top-6 guy if Galchenyuk doesn't work out): Hyman, Kerfoot, Simmonds, Engvall, Spezza, Boyd, Petan, Vesey, Barabanov, Robertson . . .
He might bump one of those guys out, but if he can't suit a top-6 role, then probably not.

Wow - Fakepartofme
What's the big deal?
This team is so loaded with talent, they don't have to give an honest effort.
Seriously, just go out there and have fun. Try incredibly fancy, dipsy-doodle moves in front of the net, even if they can lead to a 3 on 0 going the other way.
By the way, the post-game spread in the dressing room was incredible last night. The ACC chef makes a roast beef that is to die for.
Things are good in Leafland. No need to get upset about things like wins and loses. It's not like last night is going to affect the amount of money the boys get for doing the next Sonnet Insurance commercial.
Sincerely,
Club Blue and White |

ya, agreed - KD sees some potential there. We were trying to figure out Wedgie's question about why we gave up an 'asset' as opposed to just grabbing him off waivers.
